Mike epp's character

Did not like how he treated Brian at first. He was total douche who needed a punch in the face.

I agree.

He was unlikeable.

But, although he was openly rude, her friends, at least initially, weren't kind to the idea of Kenya dating a white man.

While not grossly representative of all of us, I think that his attitude, and the attitudes of many of the blacks in this film (eg some of the people at Kenya's house warming party, Kenya's brother, Kenya's mother) go to show that blacks can be just as racist/prejudice as whites when it comes to black/white interracial dating.

I think often times, in these specific racial dating situations, we put the burden of "proving you're not a racist" on that of the white man/woman's family members, friends, social peers, and community. And as a black woman who has been in several interracial relationships with white men, I definitely understand this first hand.

I think the writers were very good and intentional with isolating us from Simon's sphere of influence and focusing on that alone of Kenya.

It's such a great movie.
