Forced Drama

Erin and Dexter, by and large, have been very supportive and positive toward other designers all season. Cornelius has been nothing but mean-spirited and negative—especially behind their backs during the interviews that they can’t see. Then he cries in front of the judges that he was bullied by Erin and Dexter.

Obviously, Erin could have said, “I designed the skirt and take full responsibility.” She didn’t deny it when pressed, was honest and complimentary toward Cornelius, and ultimately had to pick her least favorite outfit. Don’t know why we’re raking her over the coals here.

From the very beginning when they announced the teams, Cornelius was like, “Oh great. Woe is me.” He said not one positive thing this episode. I can’t recall anytime he was ever complimentary toward other designers.

Tell me why again we’re supposed to feel like he was “bullied” by “mean girls”?????? Please.

reply

Thank you!!! Erin and Dexter are both talented and have said many nice things even in confessional. It makes me so sad that the producers try so hard to cast them both in the "villain" role. The skirt that Erin designed was better than what Cornelius had first done with the head to toe plaid box suit, but either way Cornelius still designed the weakest look.

Cornelius has brought negativity to the work room since the beginning. He seems jealous of Dexter and Erin IMHO. He acted like such a martyr the whole episode but his three pieces were much simpler and had less design than Erin or Dextex's clothes. And Cornelius has made some of the most poorly constructed garments this season. That heinous patchwork denim jumper with the ill fitting yellow tank top should have sent him home.

Just a complete waste of a save, I like all of the other designers work so much more and really would have been happy seeing the save go to anybody but him.

reply

Oh well; apologist abound! Go ahead and make excuses for the "mean girls!" Cornelius' no saint, but he did nothing to warrant the treatment from these b!tches who threw him under the bus when they were more responsible for this challenge turning into a disaster! 

There was no throwing anyone under the bus, Cornelius made the weakest outfit and all the other designers did was state the obvious. It's a design competition, the weakest designer is sent home. He brought the team down and was rightly called out for it. His outfit was awful and hurt the team. Erin's coat and Dexter's dress were way better than anything Cornelius made.

Agreed totally.

reply

Cornelius made Erin's skirt. Without it she wouldn't have had a skirt and Cornelius would have had a good outfit.

reply

I thought the head to toe plaid box outfit was the worst. He made a simple plaid box skirt that I could have sewn in 30 minutes. It was Cornelius and Tim's suggestion to move the box skirt to Erin's look and she allowed being a team player. She never asked nor did anyone force him to do any of that, he offered and then stabbed them in the back complaining about it. The pleat skirt was a mess but so was everything else he made. I'm still having nightmares about his patchwork denim atrocity with the yellow box tannktop that barely covered his model. Hoping he goes home next week because I like all of the other designers work so much more and he is bringing down the show with his fake drama.

No. This is the producers manufacturing drama where there is none.

If Cornelius felt that strongly about the colors, he should have done something about it--like buy different fabric. Instead, he tried to have it both ways--complain about the look the entire episode and say, "It wasn't even my idea," OR have the winning look and say, "I completed most of these looks myself."

Cornelius needs to focus on creating good designs and stop constantly bad-mouthing everyone.

reply

I won't say Corny deserved to be saved; probably a huge waste used up by Tim, but Erin and Dexter could have been a little more deliberate getting things done for this challenge! 

So right, I will never understand how people can watch a show for weeks and completely forget all the "mean girl" things Cornelius has said and done, to me that is being an apologist for bad behavior. I would not want to work with Cornelius nor would I ever trust him based on the shade he has thrown in confessional. At least if he had some incredible talent to back it up the save might have been deserved, but he has created nothing that was exceptional to date. He was rightfully singled out for having the weakest garments and bringing negativity to be the challenge. And he has always picked awkward fabrics at mood, that has been one of his weaknesses.

reply

Saying something behind your back doesn't make you a mean girl.

reply

Yes it does. Would you like it when everyone mocks your stupidity behind your back? He said some really catty things that have now been played in front of the world. How would you feel if you were working with a bunch of people and they broadcast them mocking you? At that point his nastiness is in front of the world, not behind anyone's back. I'm sure his hurt so many people on the show already and then wants to act like he's some victim? Lame!

reply

Thank you! I agree with you and the OP 100%. I have really enjoyed this season so far and think this is one of the most talented groups of designers in a long while, but this straight-up manufactured drama is a big mistake. I'm very disappointed, because I thought we were actually going to avoid such blatant nonsense this season.

Don't waste your time arguing with Fiero. He seems to have a gripe with strong female personalities that do well on this show. Pounces first chance he gets.

Totally agree. I didn't feel the least bit sorry for Cornelius this episode. He didn't speak up enough about his own point of view - even when Tim was in the workroom and asked him his opinion, he never said he thought there was too much red. He's acted like a smug little twit the whole time he's been there and has shown nothing in the way of talent to justify his conceited attitude. He's by far the weakest of the designers left. He hasn't produced anything at all noteworthy this season, and you're right - he should have gone home last week instead of Brik.

Just a complete waste of a save
This was the bulls--tiest save yet from Tim, who seems determined to perpetuate a horrible track record with his crappy picks. He should have used it on a truly talented designer like Alex. Instead this episode we got bogus drama and a completely meaningless save, wasted on a person who in no way deserved it. Ugh.

the direct to camera interviews should not be considered a be all end all summation of their personalities. cornelius isn't a trash talker, he is answering questions in those clips.

erin and dexter's friendship is obnoxious. they have talked each other up in every episode and clearly erin's overconfidence is hindering her performance.

cornelius had less time because he gave her half of his look. he voiced his doubts the whole time which matched what the judges said.

he shouldn't have been eliminated regardless of your perception of his personality based on his direct to camera interviews.

reply

You completely ignored all of my comments about his design work, so I will say it again. He is the weakest designer and I have been unimpressed with all of his looks. It is a design competition, as the weakest designer he should have gone home. You may judge Dexter and Erin's friendship harshly but the show is not called "Project Personality". The judges liked Erin and Dexters looks better and I agree. Him getting the save is completely unfair to all of the way more talented designers that are left.

reply

my reply was to the OP. i am not ignoring anyone but offering a separate POV that anything said in a direct to camera is prompted, not spontaneous. so therefore it doesn't make someone mean or nice.

i think cornelius is the weakest designer and should go home soon, but i was irked by dexter and erin being so over the top happy with themselves throughout and having messy incoherent reasons for cornelius being the weakest link. i don't think they'll succeed in the industry with the personalities they are demonstrating. *I AM NOT COMMENTING ON THE COMPETITION JUST MERELY OBSERVING*

reply

LMAO, what are you even arguing? You think it's ok to judge Dexter and Erin on personality but want to call others for doing so to Cornelius because you can't remember all the nasty things he's said? Please go back and rewatch the season. No one will hire Cornelius for anything just based off his shoddy work.

reply

lol ok good luck to you in life taking a reality show competition so seriously and not understanding the meaning of the word "observation"

reply

Thank you for the laughs, you are truly hilarious. Your observations are absurd and you have no argument other than very misguided personality attacks. Bravo! You win at life for sure, or whatever is going to make you feel better lmao.

reply

anything said in a direct to camera is prompted, not spontaneous. so therefore it doesn't make someone mean or nice.
I'm afraid I don't follow your logic there. The fact that the confessionals are being prompted by questions from the producers doesn't negate any bitchiness or cattiness that a designer decides to throw into his or her answer. They're not being forced to read someone else's script at gunpoint. The way they choose to answer is indicative of their personality.

reply

i hear you, i just can't help but feel like if i was on a show about fashion and a producer was sitting in a room alone with me asking me what i thought about certain designs, my responses would be very candid and could be doctored to sound mean. i don't think they define the contestants personalities. that's all. no guns were mentioned and i never used the word "forced".

reply

Honey, that's just thier observation of your absurd statement, please don't take it so personally lol.

reply

[deleted]

Oh boo hoo, you such a bully and a mean girl!!!!!! Whaaaa I'm going to cry about just like Cornelius. Showing your true nastiness.

reply

okbutlikewhy you have done nothing but argue so get off your busted high horse. Shame!

And I cannot text you with a drink in my hand?

reply

they said they didn't follow me, so i was explaining.
That was me and your logic is still faulty as far as I'm concerned. The designers' confessionals are not being edited word by word. We see them uttering complete sentences and expressing complete thoughts and opinions, and we see the attitude with which they do it. We may not be seeing every single answer they give, but it's ridiculous to state that we can't tell anything about their real personalities from what we do see.

reply

Thank you! It's like "the words came out of your fk'n mouth!" You would think the producers are cutting frames to get them to do a "Max Headroom!" Nonsensical! No one's a saint; least of all Dexter! So get over the victimhood people! Erin and Dexter ran "game" and ended up looking bad; and that's saying something when anyone can possibly have any sympathy for Corny! I'm aggravated they've forced me to defend Cornball because he should be gone! He's bad! 

it doesn't change the idea that being candid about fashion design on a design show doesn't make you mean

Criticism is expected, but when you're on the losing team, drama builds! Each are wondering what direction to take concerning the inevitable question of "who should go home?" Some are more gracious than others; Erin and Dexter were not! 

Cornelius is totally a trash talker. He wasn't "answering questions" when he went from designer to designer complaining about other designers.

He was stirring the pot from the moment he arrived.

reply

There was definitely no mean girl anything going on. When a designer is asked to send someone home, usually s/he will pick someone who isn't their friend and most people won't choose themselves.

reply

anyone with self respect would take accountability for their own mistakes. i don't take an issue with them choosing to send him home, but take a serious issue with how little pride and self respect they appeared to have throughout the whole challenge. erin should have taken responsibility for being the visionary, dexter should have owned up to the styling. they both could have said cornelius should have gone home because he's a weaker designer and the outcome would have probably been the same but instead they seemed so phony and self righteous.

he provided a skirt to erin, and she never once offered to help him? he was their safety net in case they lost and nothing more from day 1.

reply

The skirt Erin designed for him was better than the boring basic box skirt they hid under her beautiful coat. He did a horrible job of sewing everything and the construction was wonky. It was Cornelius and Tim's idea to move the skirt to Erin's look and she was a team player and went along with it. Cornelius made three much simpler pieces that had less design than the other two. His plaid coat was a mess from the beginning and looked awkward because he had no idea how to sew plaid together. He chose to complain to others instead of asking for help from his team. They tried to listen to him and even brought up his concerns to Tim for him.

Cornelius should take accountability that he does not have the same skill level as the remaining designers.

reply

The skirt Erin designed for him was better than the boring basic box skirt

Don't you have eyes or ears? The pleaded skirt looked bad and the designer just hated the idea.

reply

Hmmmm... very interesting point. Then why did Cornelius make it? Why didn't Cornelius design something else? We never saw Erin saying he had to make it. Gee, do you think Cornelius made that skirt because he has no original ideas and is a sub par designer? Why blame Erin for Cornelius's short comings as a designer? Cornelius has made many poorly constructed basic garments this season and somehow that's Erin's fault? She tried to help him and kept him from making another basic piece, the skirt turned out poorly because Cornelius does not know how to pattern properly. Erin is cute, confident and quirky she has a great POV as a designer which unfortunately Cornelius has none. Anybody with a brain could so easily see this through this weeks poorly edited crap. But the sheep are always going to fall for it. Cornelius has been a nasty mean girl all season and it was a waste of a save on a subpar designer.

And I cannot text you with a drink in my hand?

reply

The b***hiest 2 are Cornelius and his pal the pink haired two. Those 2 talk the most s**t. the pink haired one seems especially jealous of Erin for some reason.

That's why team challenges are hard on the losers; judging planned to put them all on the spot! There's that "forced drama" and it happens every time; the crying, the anger/resentment, and the long knives coming out for 1 of them!  

"we set strict parameters, fell in love with our own ideas, refused to listen to his doubts and didn't contribute as much as he did, but his skirt was ugly so he should go home" - throwing someone under the bus

reply

If your POV is anything said in confessional is "forced" than certainly you can see they blatantly force them to name who they think the weakest designer was. And we all saw earlier in the season what happened to the designer that named himself, he was sent home. They are all put in a lose-lose situation. And in this case, the judges agreed with the designers. Cornelius made three poorly constructed garments that looked like they were from a TJ Max. It's not "throwing someone under a bus" when that person is the weakest designer and whose biggest contribution to the team was complaining. If you are working in a team and you don't like the direction it's going in then offer a solution.

reply

I can't stand him. He's a mean girl. I can't stand Natalia either. Wait until the reunion when the other designers see Cornelius' comments.

reply

We can only comment based on the edit and from what I've seen I will say that I am not a fan of Cornelius neither as a designer or as a personality. Although I will say that I have seen some growth from him personality wise. This competition has clearly humbled him as he has seemed a lot less bitchy in confessionals. As for Erin and Dexter, I would never label either as mean girls. I'm sorry but I don't see how anyone who has watched season 8 can compare those two to the monsters of that season.

The problem with Erin and Dexter during this challenge was hubris and a lack of respect for Cornelius' opinion. I don't think they were being intentional in that but they are so far up their own butts that his opinion didn't carry much weight because he is the weakest designer left in the competition. Had they listened to him I think they could have had a stronger collection and he really did pick up a lot of slack for that team. Erin should have made the skirt to go with his outfit.

I am glad the Tim Gunn saved was used not because I like Cornelius but because I hate the save and I am glad now it's gone. I believe once you're out, you're out.
