Remove the Gankutsuou demon, make a straight CoMC adaptation

The original story is epic enough without all these extra anime cliches. The most exciting bits of the anime, in fact, are straight adaptations from the novel. Not to mention the fact that the addition of Gankutsuou ruined far more of the story than it actually contributed to.

In the book, the Count still has human feelings, and actually doubts himself a few times along the way when innocents got killed (here, he was just a heartless monster being manipulated). I couldn't identify with this version of the Count, once he got possessed he was stuck the way he was, with no room for character development or growth.

Don't get me wrong, it's still an excellent anime, but they killed almost the whole mood and greatness of the book towards the end. If you're a fan of this anime, and haven't read the book, I highly recommend you do so. It's not nearly as dry as you'd expect a novel over 160 years old to be, especially considering you've just watched a pretty close adaptation of it already (sans the futuristic stuff, of course) and enjoyed it.

Because the narrator POV changed to Albert. Albert WAS Edmond, pretty much, he was LIKE Edmond used to be. The Count represented Edmond's extreme revenge side. Both were foils of each others.

I couldn't agree more with what you say. Was the demon really necessary.

See, I just saw the demon as a convenient way to explain how Edmund escaped and got his fortune and knowledge, without having to spend 10 episodes explaining it. How did he escape? demon. How did he get rich? demon. Where does his knowledge come fro? demon.

Perhaps it should have been a 39 episode series, but I see your point, but the demon had a minor role so in my opinion it really didn't matter.

^ agreed

but I like the Count with blue skin ;)

Dumas even had n Anime cliche this show ignored. A lovely Yuri romance between Eugenie Danglars and Louise d'Armilly.
