Why did they break their rules + make MORE than minimum wage?

This episode was kind of bogus, because you think the entire point would be to live off of minimum wage. All they did was just live with a low paying job, but they seemed to just gloss over the fact that they actually made more. What's the point of setting the premise and making a rule to just break it immediately? Also, they gave themselves an extra week's pay by starting off with $300+. If they were going to do this, then they should have stopped getting paid the last week. Not to mention, their situation of a dual income household with no kids is the most ideal, but certainly not the norm.

If they had actually stuck to the premise, they would have faced a much harsher reality, like maybe going hungry several nights!

I'm still wondering about that myself.

Once the show aired long ago... I just turned it off when I saw that there would be 2 people.

I wanted to see 1 person living and making $4/hr...not 2 people making $5-7 + tips + and extra job... and getting freebies from the Church.

I rewatched this entire series a month or 2 ago and found that most of the story is actualy interesting...

I think they proved their point...even making more and taking handouts, they still couldn't live decent or pay all their bills... So I eventualy accepted the show and was able to enjoy the other episodes.

They were lucky in that they lived in a city that had a 'free store' and not some podunk town without public transportation or free health clinics. They were also fortunate that Morgan was able to work more than one job at a time - many people who live on minimum wage (or low wage jobs) often cannot work more than 1 job.

One think to keep in mind though, this was done before the economic crisis of 2008 - the present.

EXACTLY!!!

I was thinking that myself? what happened to this country where a single person can not make a decent living working a full week on their own? WHAT HAPPENED? And I'm not talking about living the high life, I'm talking about a small apartment, being able to eat and have a car, is that too much to ask for?

Its really sad most people can not make a living wage in this country.

I think the episode was even stronger with Morgan making $7/hr. Making even more than minimum wage, and they were STILL below the poverty line, and all it takes is one unexpected expense to send a minimum wage-ish family into the red.
