Anti-immigration

It is just as ignorant to believe every illegal immigrant family is like the Gonzales as to think that all illegal immigrants are lazy or have malicious intent when coming to the United States.

Also, Frank is not "anti-immigration" as the producers/Spurlock states, he is anti-illegal immigration. They tried to seem unbiased, but a semi-educated person can discern there blatant partisan politics.

Of course. If 5 million people claimed the entire United States (which they didn't), a reasonable person would likely ignore the so called "laws" that would be hard to enforce.

I did not like this episode because:

1) Not every family is going to be like the one portrayed.

2) Not every illegal immigrant's kid is going to be as educated as Armida.
Just because she has never been caught doing a crime, doesn't mean there aren't others who haven't.

3) Even though Armida is seemingly educated (3.8 at an illegal immigrant school?), she doesn't understand that calling the Pilgrims etc illegal aliens does not help her cause. The Europeans took over an entire country.... so we should welcome illegal immigrants with open arms... because???

4) They are not paying for the schools their kids are attending, the tax-payers are.

5) They think it's okay to make $15,000 a year because Americans are 'greedy' for wanting $30-$35 an hour for doing his (the dad's) job (which he says he isn't taking away from any American citizens.)

6) If he is only making $15,000 a year, where are they getting the money for food, school supplies, the trip to the Mexican restaurant, clothes, electricity, MEDICAL? Who is taking care of them? The Tax-payer?

7) They did not want a white person in their home. They can not understand how a LEGAL immigrant (can be from anywhere) could be against ILLEGAL immigration. Our country does not need to be burdened with more uneducated individuals. We have enough of our own problems without the waste of resources.

8) Why should we have to deal with this family or any other making $15,000 a year and having 2 kids born here, even though they already had 3 they couldn't even afford.

9) Who is going to pay for these kid's college (daughter Armida mentions she is going to "do good in college)"? American tax-payers? Armida mentions.... PRINCETON???

10) Why would anyone support amnesty? Why are there higher crime rates in areas populated with illegals? Why is this girl so blinded by her need for justification?

11) Armida doesn't think they are criminals, because she's doing good in an American tax-payer funded school. You are a criminal, because you are breaking the law.

12) If they are so poor and can barely afford living quarters and food, why does the daughter even have a make-up bag? The other daughter has a hair-straightener. Televisions, game systems, computers, digital cameras.... all should be sold and paid back to the American tax-payer.

13) Armida has no idea what the American Dream is. The American Dream has nothing to do with supporting huge numbers of unwanted, undocumented workers (slave labor) and their impoverished children (never just one.)

14) Why in the restaurant scene did they pretend the parent's understood ANYTHING the teacher said?

15) The Teacher texting/fiddling with beeper (who carries beepers anymore? drug dealers?) while calling the man an idiot.

16) The teacher saying "they're here, just let it go." Obviously, that is not going to happen. The teacher is an apologist, "Sorry, I'm white." He's an instigator and has a perfect job at his highly illegal immigrant populated public school, where his salary is paid for by the American tax-payer.

17) Armida calling the LEGAL immigrant a hypocrite for BEING and immigrant.
She likes to ignore the word ILLEGAL, because she doesn't see how she has broken any laws. Good luck in college.

18) The mom thinks that buying her children Christmas presents is more important than paying back the funds to the American tax-payer that her and her family are stealing by living here illegally.

19) They're so poor but the mom has dye in her hair.

20) The mom broke the ice for him, because she is 'nice' and wants to purchase Christmas presents for her 5 children that she can't afford to feed.

21) Bonding over golf. Golf isn't cheap.

22) Armida thought she could get into Princeton.

23) Why would any U.S. citizen support a bill that would help illegals become citizens? These people have lied and cheated their way through our country... They now want to own their own businesses and employ more illegal immigrants... This is not realistic for the United States.

24) Yelling Spanish at a 'peaceful candlelight vigil.'

25) Armida thinking he would take a candle from her. Wasting money on candles, when they are so broke and are in debt to the American tax-payer.

26) Using the mom's dead parents as a tactic to have us become emotional and ignore the fact that they are illegal. Maybe they should have went through the LEGAL process and they would have been able to see her parents.

27) The family in Mexico are better dressed than the family in the United States.

28) Before Mexicans have children, they know what their country is like. Why do they always start out in the United States with more than one kid and hope we won't catch on to their false desperation of a hole they put themselves in?

29) We have people in the United States who are legal citizens who live in homes just as debilitated as the one we were shown as the family's house in Mexico.
(Our Government can't help our own people with illegal immigrants stealing from the tax-payers generosity.)

30) Maybe instead of getting married, moving into a deteriorated house and having three kids, they should have done something else instead of contributing to their own country's problems and now the United State's.

31) Our own Native American's live just as bad as these Mexicans, yet people expect us to take more pity on the Mexicans.

32) Armida's problems are her parent's fault, not the fault of anti-illegal immigration citizens.

33) Grandma says it's impossible to see the family members. The family members that are in Mexico could always legally visit the United States therefore visiting their illegal immigrant family members.

34) They can contact their family in Mexico but they can't get pictures from them.

35) They chose to leave their family in Mexico, abandoning them. Now we are to feel sorry for them not knowing them.

36) The man wants to sponsor them and we are to now feel that all immigrants have the right to live here. The reason for our laws: NOT EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY. Especially people who came here illegally and vocally ignore the laws that were put in place to protect our citizens.

I do hope this family eventually becomes LEGAL. Hopefully they will do things the RIGHT WAY as I've seen MANY OTHER immigrants do. I am not anti-immigration. I am against illegal immigration because I have seen what it does to our communities. Whether or not this family sees those problems or not.

I didn't like your post because:

1) Your statement that not all families are like the one portrayed and not all illegal immigrants have children as educated as Armida is actually asinine. They obviously cannot show every type of immigrant in one episode. Saying they are not all like that family is like saying not all white people are racist or ignorant - Get my point?

2) No one every said it was okay to make $15K a year or that Americans are greedy- YOU said that.

3) Having known many immigrants personally (some legal some illegal) I can tell you all of the ones I knew paid taxes. This is another common fallacy that people like you seem to hang on to. Many illegals have a ss# that no matter how they got it, they are paying into a system that they will not be taking that money from upon "retirement." Many are home owners and thus are paying taxes for schools, roads, emergency services, and all the same things you & I pay taxes for as well.

3) They never said they didn't want a white person in their home... did you watch this episode??

4) You should really start by going back and watching the part of the episode that showed the horrible squalor they were living in before. I've been poor, but the poverty here doesn't begin to compare with the poverty there. As a human being there should be consideration for each other no matter where you are from or how you got here. There are plenty of 2nd & 3rd generation Americans that commit crimes, live off the government and do all the things you seem to think are done by illegal immigrants alone.
The rest of your posts are mostly ignorant, hateful and racist. And anyone that has the time to list 36 reasons they don't like a 40 minute show is pretty much "un perdador," imho.

reply

Did you even watch the episode and listen to what the family was saying?!

The father literally called Americans lazy and ungrateful. He said he is willing to work for less while a white American wants health care and a decent wage. He said THAT'S why we have an unemployment problem.

Why you want to invite a bunch of people into our country that calls us lazy I have no idea. I hate that argument more than anything. Americans are the hardest working people worldwide. We work more than anyone and produced more than other nation until China *beep* everything up and we gave the power to greedy corporations.

Before that though our work ethnic was literally unfounded. And you think it's OK for someone to sneak in here, not pay a dime in taxes, get free healthcare and school and then call us lazy?!?! You must hate yourself and your country.

reply

To freestyledressage's message, I have this to respond:

The father didn't call anyone lazy or ungrateful. You must have been watching the video in your mind. He DID say that he would work for less and that is a problem no matter who said it. I am not of a mind to think that everyone working for less is a good thing. We all need a living wage and that is a problem that will never be solved because of the multifaceted things that are involved. Not the least of which is the fact that our government keeps finding ways to bring cheap labor into this country! Our beloved country (which yes, I do love or I wouldn't be here and I wouldn't care enough to make any comment at all) has gotten rich off of the poor labor of immigrants: Chinese, Japanese, African, Mexican and many more. This is only one of the problems, and it's not caused by immigrants but by a greedy government.

As for me inviting a bunch of people, I don't recall doing that. However, where do you think most Americans came from? WE were un-invited when we landed here and started killing off the natives and taking their land.

And I already responded to the commonly held incorrect belief that anyone who is illegal must not be paying any taxes. That's a load of crap. Are they some that don't? SURE. Are there plenty of Americans born here that don't? SURE.

The problem isn't human beings and the solution isn't treating human beings like something less. Until people recognize the causes of the problem, all the rest is a racist-filled smokescreen.

reply

Rondline - Yes, the father did call Americans lazy. I'm sorry you didn't notice that and that you don't notice that the argument from many illegals is that Americans are lazy and they are here to pick our lettuce cause we are unable (yeah right).

I will happily reply to you point by point because at least you are talking to me and not just calling people racist (which is the usual argument).

YOU: "Our beloved country (which yes, I do love or I wouldn't be here and I wouldn't care enough to make any comment at all) has gotten rich off of the poor labor of immigrants: Chinese, Japanese, African, Mexican and many more. This is only one of the problems, and it's not caused by immigrants but by a greedy government."

Let's talk about the last 100 years. In the early 1900s immigrants that came here had to go through a lot of bs to become citizens. They didn't sneak in and had to literally do things like fight in wars to become part of this country.

BOTH of my grandparents were immigrants. BOTH of my grandfathers fought in WW2. One lost his arm and what was his reward? To be part of this country. That was his reward.

Those are the types of immigrants that USED to come here. Those are the types of immigrants that you are talking about. Allowing people who jumped a border, squated, lived off the generous welfare system (us taxpayers) and then demanded the same rights as citizens cheapens our country as a whole. Imagine if you fought in a war to come to this country and other people's claim to citizenship is "I'm here, you should just let us all stay here".

YOU: "As for me inviting a bunch of people, I don't recall doing that. However, where do you think most Americans came from? WE were un-invited when we landed here and started killing off the natives and taking their land."

This is the straw man argument that people use because they feel guilty for being Americans. Let me enlighten you on something. ALL COUNTRIES ON THIS PLANET HAVE HORRIBLE HISTORIES AND HAVE KILLED TO MAKE THEIR COUNTRIES WHAT THEY ARE TODAY. That doesn't mean that hundreds of years later you use that history against them to try and make a silent invasion possible.

You do realize that what we made out of that *beep* history is a pretty awesome thing right? It's so awesome, that Mexicans don't even want their country and want what was created here. And yet, you want to use the bloody history (that every country has) as an excuse to allow this uninhibited flow of people that the land simply cannot sustain?!

YOU: "And I already responded to the commonly held incorrect belief that anyone who is illegal must not be paying any taxes. That's a load of crap. Are they some that don't? SURE. Are there plenty of Americans born here that don't? SURE."

What the hell? You think those Mexicans who can't speak any English, who are working under the table are filing tax returns?! Wtf? Are you out of your mind?

First off, no non USA citizen is owed a damn thing by America. If you are poor and live in America you are still owed by America. You have a right to the schooling system, you have a right to our welfare services to try and get you back on your feet. You can't seriously think ALL of these things for American citizens extends to non-citizens? Do you?!

Here's what I want you to do. I want you to break your arm and cross the northern border to Canada. Then DEMAND that you, as a non Canadian citizen, are owed a part of their healthcare system. Even though, you have never paid into it, you are NOT a citizen, and you generally have no loyalty to the country. Let me tell you how fast you will be kicked out. Then they might throw some paperwork at you that tells you how to become a citizen. (Then once you read the paperwork, as I did, you will see you have a a *beep* chance of becoming a citizen of any other country unless you are a doctor.)

The illegals here use our schooling system, our medical care and pay nothing into the system while ALSO not being a citizen.

Now, this may shock you, as an American, even if you pay nothing into the system you are still owed K-12 schooling. Did you not know that? Not being a citizen and NOT paying into the system makes it so that these people have no claim to anything in this country.

YOU: "The problem isn't human beings and the solution isn't treating human beings like something less. Until people recognize the causes of the problem, all the rest is a racist-filled smokescreen."

Actually, you want to know what's a racist-filled smokescreen? It's illegal latinos marching down the street saying that they demand the same things as American citizens. It's the idea that LEGAL latinos want the same thing for illegal latinos even though they of all people should be demanding the illegals leave. THAT'S RACIST.

It's funny, cause whenever someone pulls the race card they don't seem to even know why. They just call it racist cause they have run out of things to say. Who is saying we want to dehumanize them? I just want them out, I didn't say put a bullet in their head. I said they have to go back to their country that actually DOES owe them something.

Listen, numbers don't lie. Whether you love illegals and think that America should just be open to everyone constantly, surely you know that this country would turn into a third world country were that to happen. Right? Surely you know that we cannot support millions upon millions of people who were *beep* by OTHER countries.

Now let me tell you what else. I used to not give a *beep* about illegal immigrants. I used to think it wasn't a big deal. Then I moved to an area that had a HUGE illegal immigrant problem and I saw what it really does to neighborhoods and the workforce.

This world had lines drawn based on countries, sets of rules, taxes and leaders. It is not only immoral to say that we need to take care of all of the other country's problems but it's stupid to think it's possible. It's literally IMPOSSIBLE to keep this going. No country can continue like this. And any American citizen who loves this country would be horrified to see what is happening right before our eyes.

reply

@freestyledressage

I will try my best to respond to you, because you have at least given this some thought and I respect that even if I don't agree with you. And you are correct, I don't think you are racist nor would I say that unless I had some real information to back it up, as opposed to an anecdotal post on imdb.

The romanticized image of the 1900's and Ellis Island isn't a complete picture. After all, many of the people who came here without sneaking in were still part of a group that was riddled with crime and even gave rise to organized syndicates all the while, clinging to their original language and culture. Is today's immigrant different? Absolutely- they're more desperate and they need work. The main reason for immigration is WORK.

Yes, I come from immigrants - my paternal grandfather was from Northern Italy and he fought in the war too. Does that give me any more entitlement to this country or piece of land than anyone else? Not in my mind, but then to me sovereignty is not something that I think trumps all other considerations. I think being a *human being* - no matter where you are from - it the first and primary consideration when dealing with people.

As for noting that we "Americans" came here uninvited and took land that wasn't ours - that has nothing to do with guilt - it's a fact. I have no guilt over what someone else did and I don't mention it because I'm trying to single out our country. You don't have to "enlighten" me (nor is it necessary to be condescending), I know world history and I know that EVERY country, every religion is paved with bodies of the innocent. Does that make it any less heinous? And no, that is not saying a "silent invasion" is warranted. It is saying that as human beings, we are driven by the most basic necessities. If someone cannot provide for themselves and their family, they will try to find a way.

I'm not sure how many Mexicans you know, but I would be willing to guess it's not very many - no matter the number, I think that generalizations are not accurate and can be dangerous.
Mexicans DO want their country- they would prefer to stay there with their families and work there. All things being equal, there is no one that would not rather stay and live in their home country surrounded by their family and friends than some place else. There is a huge economic imbalance between our nations and that has caused something called the "push - pull" affect as well as the increase in influx of immigrants from Central America.

Again, you infer things from what I wrote that I didn't say. I never said that "Mexicans who can't speak any English, who are working under the table are filing tax returns?!" What I did say is I personally know (and each of them knows even more people) many, many people who came here illegally and then bought or acquired a ss# so they COULD get a job. THOSE are the ones paying taxes and also having a positive affect on the local economy in which they live, work and buy things.

I also never suggested that someone who isn't a citizen of the U.S. is owed anything as a citizen - however, they ARE owed something simply as a human being. You (the general you) don't deny them healthcare, you don't deny their innocent children schooling and you don't let them die just because of the way they came here.

Lastly, I never ever suggested (or thought) that you meant to put a bullet in anyone's head. How you jumped to that from "dehumanize" is unknown to me.
Dehumanization comes in many forms, the most common leaves its victim alive.

That said, I think we DO owe each other something. I believe that we are in this world together. The sooner we leave our ethnocentric prejudices in the dust and move forward towards a global community, the sooner peace and prosperity will become a reality - and not for just a few.

You may think me crazy, but I have kept my discourse civil and I've not taken personally your comments (e.g. "it's stupid to think it's possible") but I have taken what you had to say and given it considerable thought. I think that doing that, and not getting angry when someone expresses a divergent opinion, is the way for us to all work towards a solution. I do believe something needs to change and I may not have the answers, but I am willing to look for them together.

reply

Wow, I wasn't expecting someone with half a brain here.

I always tell people to try and live in my neighborhood. I didn't care about the illegal immigration problem either. And then I moved here and saw what REALLY happens when a neighborhood is taken over by people who can't speak English and have five kids.

I pissed me off to no end when I was busting my ask working 55 hour weeks, sleeping on a floor, eating cheap food and then paying all these taxes. Meanwhile, the family next door has five kids, a 60'' tv (yes, I joke you not), plenty of food on the table and their kids all go to school.

Yet, they don't speak English and are not US citizens. What people don't understand is that some of these illegals make $25,000 a year and don't pay a dime in taxes. Life is a lot harder for citizen. It's horrible.

And since they get paid under the table they are considered all under poverty levels. Make them all legal and guess what? Immediate welfare recipients. They will keep their jobs where they get paid cash, keep getting welfare and free schooling. All the while adding nothing to the system.

Oh, but one day they might open up a fruit stand and hire their cousin to work for them. Oh yeah, that's great for the economy.

Meanwhile, we have families of all races living in ghettos in the city. I would much rather use my tax dollars to help citizens that were BORN here and *beep* by the system than to help people that came from another system that THEY *beep* and come here to *beep* this system more.

reply

Frank couldn't answer the question..."So what do we do with the 30 million illegal immigrants who are already here".

Not his problem?

reply

We make the ones that are NOT below poverty level legal. If they would need welfare once they became citizens they should not be legalized.

Also, if they make more than their Child Tax Credit and deductions combined they should be shipped out as well.

The ones that can support themselves, didn't get into any trouble and can pay their back taxes can stay. Otherwise, they need to slowly be taken out of the country and the border has to be secured.

Another point is that not so much as a single illegal should become legal until that border is 100% secured. We are literally rewarding people for breaking the law. This is a HUGE deal in every country but America.

You cannot buy land in Mexico as an American citizen. If you went to Canada or the UK and they found out you were illegal you would be shipped the *beep* out. They don't debate it or wonder if you have kids. Popping a kid out does not make the child a citizen anywhere except for a America. We have to get rid of that.

If you are illegal and have a kid in America your kid is suddenly an American. This was to help the population grow when we first came here. I think that since the population is out of control we have to get rid of this rule.

reply

[deleted]

Some people are going to look back at this episode and realize we should have done something about this illegal immigrant problem a hell of a lot sooner.

Also, making them all legal? That would be a great way to get 20 million welfare recipients over night.

We are so *beep* And I hate how people who don't live in areas that feel the full force of this invasion act like it's no big deal. You try living in a neighborhood where everyone is illegal, has five kids and does everything under the table. Meanwhile, the hit and run rate is through the roof in your city and you personally have been hit twice by two different illegals who didn't have any insurance.

Oh wait, we can't talk about that. Apparently they have bad lives in Mexico and so we have to let them poor in here uninhibited.

And while I personally have nothing against illegals, I can't help but dislike the ones that come here with no kids and then have 5 kids in a 6 year time span. I think your anchor was set at one kid.
