life on an indian reservation episode

hopefully this hasn't already been addressed, so if it has please don't be upset, but i'm wanting to know why native americans seem to have such a perfect accent and i'm pretty sure they talked about it in that episode of this show so if you remember i'd really appreciate it if you could remind me. Thanks.

a perfect accent? which accent? if you mean an "american" accent- maybe americans got their accent from them, and not so much the other way around.

I know I am replying to an older post but as this has not been addressed I thought I would answer. First a little bit of history (which is easy to verify if you do a little legwork). Before the white people came, there were about 500 nations of people each with their own dialect. During the years of conquering and occupation (by the British and Spanish as they fought for control of the new world) about 90-95% of the natives were wiped out - either due to murder, starvation, disease, etc. The remaining natives were placed into concentration camps (called reservations) where they were kept separate from the whites. A form of indoctrination occurred in these camps where the natives were taught English and taught to read the Bible. One of the goals was to rid the natives of any remaining language skills from their previous nations. This is called "assimilation" and was one of the goals of the US government with the small remainder of natives because killing them off had not been working.
