It is so strange, i have only seen land of the dead with her, which she was completely fine in. not amazing, but really good. then i hear some people say "she is one of the best modern actresses of our time" to "she cant act for her life". Well, im going to determine because i am going to watch mother of tears. thoughts on why the huge difference?

I find her to be incredibly gifted and totally her own person. You seriously should also check out "Scarlet Diva"(which she wrote, directed, and starred in) and "Marie Antoinette"(she has a small role but steels the screen in her few moments)
shareshe's the kind of actress you either love or hate? exactly. she tries to demand an emotional black & whiteness while at the same time going against the black & white morality of convention. it's funny. her character isn't intelligent enough to fear to be able to hate nor interesting enough to love.

She's better in films set in the present (or future) like New Rose Hotel and Boarding Gate. I don't really like her in Une vieille maitress or Queen Margot. So she's a good actress in roles that suit her but obviously she's nowhere near the likes of Isabelle Adjani.

She must be good. Otherwise she wouldn't get that many leading roles. In Une vieille maîtresse she does an OK job. The movie just isn't any good.

I think her emotionally raw performances are interesting, especially when so many actresses are just concerned whether the public is going to like them, or if the character is sympathetic. I think she did a wonderful job with "The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things," and I found her interesting enough in Une vieille Maîtresse to carry the movie, as the rest of the cast was rather dull. I hated Scarlett Diva, which I found to be boring, juvenile posturing, and very self-indulgent.
I haven't seen that many of her films but I think that she could develop into a tremendous actress if she balanced her work with some really straight conventional characters as well as the 'edgy' roles that she seems to specialise in. I suspect that the people who dislike her may think that she tries too hard to be different.

pretty conventional and not as bad as imdb voters make us believe.
I like her because she is sexy in her own way and doesnt give a *beep* what people think of her. She's not the best actress in the world, but she gives roles her all and puts real emotion into them. She's weird, dark, and offputting, but she doesnt come off as snobby and she doesnt try to follow anyone. She doesnt give into hollywood's ridiculous ideals.
