One of the worst documentaries I had ever seen.

I'll admit, it had a lot of good information in it. The evidence they had in the film, most of it could be debunked. It was really flashy, trying to make you jump during the film, even though it was just trying to informative. It was just a hollywood douchebag trying to make a hollywood documentary.

If you're really interested in this film and all the stories, watch the episode of Ghost Hunters where they go to this place. It gives you a lot of great info and some real haunting evidence, not just possible photoshopped/hard to see pictures.

I grew up right down the road from Waverly and that "documentary" looked like a fluff piece for the movie.

There is some very interesting history at Waverly. Instead of telling that story they wrapped a bunch of idiotic stock footage around some cheesy "evidence." One of the main interviewees is the guy that wrote the film. Where is footage of a local real historian, Tom Owens possibly, giving some clear history? The one ex-patient, Mr. Steele, sounded like his interview alone would have made a much better documentary.

Waverly was "spooky" because we trespassed at night and tried to scare each other. Many "visitors" were under the influence and that only heightened the spookiness. Seriously, even without chemical help, imagine traipsing around those broken down rooms in the dark? That doesn't mean there were ghosts.

Wow, I totally agree with everything you said. I just watched this and I was pretty annoyed and distracted by all the silly editing they did to try and creep people out: dumb sound effects, visual effects... It would have been alot more watchable, credible, and compelling if they had just been more straightforward instead of trying to tweak the show to make it spooky and weird.

I will say this: I was horrified and really saddened by the footage and information about the conditions in the hospital -- especially after it had become an old-folks home. Hearing about the conditions that the elderly people had to endure there really got me emotional, and was horrifying. I can certainly see how many people who died in that place would have been too traumatized to have "moved on," and are trapped their by the agony, both physical and emotional, of what they experienced.

In terms of watchableness and reliability, I also recommend the Ghost Hunters episode on Waverly Hills Hospital.

Take Care :-)

You couldn't have said it better

I just watched it and I must agree...One of the worst documentaries I've ever seen.

90% of the show was a history lesson on the sanitorium (This could have been accomplished within the first 15 minutes of the show) , 10,000 interviews with people giving the same stories over and over and over and over again. Joe Shmoe saw a shadow, Sally saw a shadow, Timmy saw a shadow.
And let's not forget everybody and their mother had to explain what the "death tunnel" was.

The entire show had about 2 minutes of total paranormal evidence (if you want to call it that) which consisted of dark crappy photos with dust particles, scratchy recordings, and completely fuzzy video footage.

I realy have to agree with you on this. This was and is the worst documentary
on Waverly hills I have ever seen. I been there about six months ago, durin the day time, and I did have a eerie feeling. But I didn't stay for long. But this building so huge that your eyes could play tricks on you or a camera.
But as you had said, TAPS had some real hard core evidence. For example the footage from the thermal imaging camera of something crossing the hallway.
Not to forget about the BIRD or BAT flying out of one wall and flying into another. But the film gives you a lot of details about waverly hills, the so called ghost pictures, EMF and EVP evidence sounds completely bogus. They sound like computer generated voices. I have this programm on my PC and I can make saounds like this, too.

I thought it was awesome, though the commercials drove me crazy. The old people made me cry and in general the show was entertaining.

I understand it was a different approach to Taps, but I liked both shows. I did not side by side put them in competition with each other.

All that matters is Taps found paranormal activities and so did Spooked.

Granted that TAPS are Ghost Hunters and they are damn good ones at that, Spooked was filmmakers sharing their story.

I do live in Louisville and know a few of the people that was in this doc, and they told it like they told me.

LGHS has a lot of passion as well as the owners and the locals of Waverly, it was a very personal touch.

Again I have to say I enjoyed my evening watching Sci Fi.

The documentary wasn’t the worst I’ve seen.

I agree that most of it was probably fluff for that movie, but it was pretty creepy. My biggest problem with the documentary was the repetition.

For example, how many times from how many different people did we need to hear what that death tunnel was for? I actually said out loud, “OKAY! It was use to ship dead bodies down to the hearses so that the patients wouldn’t see just how many people were dying and get depressed. I got it!!”

Some of the pictures were cool to look at…almost to the point where I say they’re too cool. Like it’s too good to be true. But it was otherwise not too bad. I enjoyed hearing about what the hospital was for because I enjoy history of old buildings. At least they still have it up. Where I live they’d probably try to tear it down so they can put a Multi-plex or a Super Wal-mart there.

The story of this place is a great story and this hollywood fluff doesn't do the story justice at all and that's the main reason i think this is one of the worst docs i've ever seen.

Now, is it just me or is the "death tunnel" really called, "Body Chute"? Something along those lines. Those Booth *beep* seemed to force the name Death Tunnel to promote their flick.

One last thing, the Booth guys seem like real *beep* I can't point out any real instances, but they seemed very disrespectful and aarogant

reply

The horror, the horror...
I saw Death Tunnel & Spooked at the same night...there's 3 hours I'll never get back...
I'm a parttime movie critic and for the first time i gave a zero. that death tunnel was the ultimate rubbish! I surely hope I'm the first and last person in Holland to see that *beep* Crap like that should stay on the other side of the ocean.
spooked was nothing better, where's the scientific evidence, why didnt i see somebody independent exam those pics? anybody with a computer could make those pics and sound recordings. totally one-sided

i did get curious about the place though...

"Now that you've called me by name"

I thought the documentary was actually very well made- I'm talking about the production here. It was stylish, it was certainly creepy, and it's something I couldn't watch in a dark room- there's something about old film footage that for some reason freaks me out. Anyway, having said all that, there's a saying(and I'm paraphrasing), "A polished turd is still a turd."
Man, was a lot of this film annoying. When I wasn't spooked(hence the title, so I'll give them credit for that, hehe) I was mad at the lack of presenting an objective piece of film. They went out of their way to do everything to scare you but none of it came off as legitimate history. So I didn't like how it seemed so one-sided. Ugh.
One more thing that I found hard to stomach...a lot of this film seemed very exploitive. Everytime they showed this stock footage of- what I presume to be real patients with tuberculosis- it just seemed like they were taking advantage of a real tragedy and that just totally turned me off.

Oh and yeah, the "evidence" was hard- if not, impossible- to believe; especially after 3 seasons of "Ghost Hunters"
That one fool(okay, that was harsh- Guy) with the two pictures of "orbs" with an eyeball and blah, blah, blah- I couldn't help but think that maybe his camera has the same piece of dirt on the lens no matter where he was taking a picture, haha.

Eh, I'd hire the crew to shoot commercials and, again, "polish" some production pieces but not to present fact-based, and I use that term loosely here regarding these guys, legitimate film.

reply

I didn't think it was horrible. If anything, it was just interesting to hear and SEE that huge building.
That "evidence" was crap, but I don't know a lot about that sort of thing. "Here's a picture of a boy standing by a tree" Um...it looked like a sun ray to me.
It at least was able to stir up some publicity for the Sanatorium, and maybe get some more visitors. Which was probably the whole point anyway.
It's still a creepy, old building!

i agree that this was the worst documentary EVER. people who posted saying they liked it probably were on the SPOOKED documentary cast. absolutely horrendous

No offense I know all about the way TAPS operates, actually if they knew I was speaking out-still - I'll probably be threatened -again- oh well..they are not as true blue as you think.....I watched them take evps in broad daylight- windows opened with kids running and playing everywhere........they claim that they got "4", yes- 4 evps and at least one has been cleaned up and you can clearly hear a child being prompted to speak:1,2,3..........now- followed by "They don't want us"- don't believe me? go on their website and download it, clean it up with any of the simple programs out there and see or should I say , hear what I mean....beside isn't their show called a docu-soap????? I mean, really, are soaps real either? They have covers and chairs that move-shot from strange angles and a phantom in a cape and sneakers? No, I know them for what they are and they know I do............stick to your local groups, they are not run by publicity, money or ratings...........It struck me odd thatthe movie for spooked came out well after the movie did and if they really needed publicity why not the other way around.........you can e-mail me if you want but remember I am telling you what I know from personal experience........keep and open mind and eyes wide open and test it for yourself do not depend on others to answer your questions about these things.really.

reply

If you think this was so bad, why are you recommending TAPS???????????please from a documentary to a docu-soap- real good choice there!Alot of their own material has been and can also be debunked-pretty easily.......This one at least was respectful to those who died- they heard the rumors and investigated- if you believe-great- if not- go there and test it yourself before calling anyone crazy or dumb-really- and everyone wonders why people who deal with hauntings don't come forward- this is why! heck, even crime victims don't seek help either- good point, huh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

You're an idiot. Atleast TAPS doesn't come up with 1,000 "Proof" items in one sitting.

And I bet you got threatened by TAPS, as if they're the CIA.

I thought it was really good it scared the hell out of me when I first saw it
