Aren't Most Chinese Still Furious About the Japanese Wars?

I am just curious how realistic it was. The film did not show one iota of anger from any of the Chinese characters. The Chinese locals thought the Japanese people were the greatest thing since sliced bread and were 100% happy to have a Japanese friend.

Yet if you watch the news in USA, all we see are riots in China against the Japanese and fury over the war crimes of Japan. And now those two countries are almost fighting about some dumb little islands.

Anyway, great film, I am just curious how realistic this part of the film was. China and Japan, sadly, have been enemy countries throughout most of their histories. Yet at the same time, much cross cultural pollination developed between the two countries. Japanese writing characters(letters) were originally taken from the Chinese ones, China introduced Buddhism into Japan, and about a million other examples.

Seems like these two countries would be natural allies, at least in modern/current times. But I believe this does not occur, because of what I mentioned- Too much anger from the past.
