HOW DO YOU FIGHT ON LAND?

1. Don't shout.

2. If you have a town with 100+ guards you fight a land battle. There usally pretty easy.

2a. If you just want money, fight a holding action with all of your troops exceppt one and let that one penetrated to the city gates. If you get there you got the town.

2b. If you want to take the town and reinstall a new gouvernour you have to fight an attrition battle.
This means you have to destroy more troops then you loose yourself.
If you keep your artilery back (Bucanners) and shot the attacking troops up, before you let your infantry (Officers, Pirates) scoop the remainders up from a favoruable position and strength then you should have no problem doing this.
After all the enemy troops are destroyed (or the ratio of yours is considerable higher) you can install a new gouvernour.

You gotto be a bad general. Just yesterday I took Havana with 250 troops of my own against 800 spanish and made it an english colony. The spanish got pulverrized.

I killed all spanish troops (240) with 80 pirates. Not as impressive as yours, but still good results despite bad odds.

It issn't really the odds that count.

The most deceiding factor IMO is the terrain.
If you position your troops and let the enemy attack you mostly can decimate them on the long range. Whatever makes it to your lines you can just clean up in close combat.

TROT is: If the computer lets you attack a town (sometimes he won`t let you, cause your troopnumbers are to low) there is a good chance that you can win.

If your close or even equal to the enemy you don`t really need to do much, you will most likely win cause the computer is a really bad commander.

If your outnumberd it`s all up to you, put once you figured out the computers tactic you will always win.

In the last couple of weeks I havn`t lost more then 3% of my troops in any attack I`ve undertaken. My whole caribian is english by now.

I can usually win as long as its no worse than 2:1 odds. You just gotta learn how to use the terrain

Heres a tip : Trees win battles. Just kinda hide out, and your gunners will kill all, and if they get close your infantry can put in their 2 cents.

Why English? I like to make the whole world Dutch. Unfortunatly, after doing that the stupid stranger kept telling me that I had to sink a trade galleon for my vengence quest.

Land battles are relatively easy. My advice which is no better than anyone else's is:

Learn how to use all terrain to your advantage.
Look at the initial setups, one may give you an extra group of bucaneers, choose that
If possible:
1. Place your buccaneers on the high ground to increase range,
2. Place pirates at their flanks for protection.
3. Hold until enemy in range of guns
4. Target enemy cavalry first
5. Use two bucaneers to attack each unit
5. If the enemy offers your pirates a flank attack take it
6. If possible send one group of pirates around to the gate as a backup measure.
