Wait a minute

When I watched the movie for the first time, I liked it. But in retrospect, I realised the central theme of the movie was "Communication failure" .. Think about it. Had the heroin told saif everything(regarding his father and sh!t like that) *clearly*, the movie would have gotten over in about an hour or so.

Ever since this thought came to my mind, I've started to dislike the movie. The only good thing i now find regd the movie is Rekha's song. Man, she's still hot

"Communication failure", these two words really struck me. I realized many Indian movies in 50's and 60's derived their plot from "Communication failure". They portrayed women as weak and demure that they were unable to speak the truth, and hence the plot. I know this story was written before 1924. Wonder if Indian women were really like that in those days....

Lots of stories (not just in Bollywood) are hinged on a failure to communicate. Someone brought up Pride and Prejudice on an unrelated note, but we can use the same comparison here.

Wouldn't the two main characters have gotten together sooner if Darcy had just told her why he didn't want her hanging around Wickham? If he had just told her more about Wickham's character and reputation, maybe Darcy and Elizabeth would have gotten together that much sooner. Part of the reason he didn't tell her was that he didn't want to speak badly of someone else. He was a gentleman, and didn't want to be rude and disrespectful, he didn't feel he ought to stoop to that level.

Similarly, I feel the heroine in this story didn't tell Shekar everything about his father for two reasons: 1) Just like Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, it wouldn't be proper for her, as a young lady to speak poorly about his father (and her potential father-in-law), 2) Note the reaction he gave her when she said (more like hinted) something bad about his father that one time, about 3/4 of the way through the movie - he slapped her and told her not to speak of his father that way. Do you think he really would have believed her if she'd told the truth? And even if he had, how would it have reflected on her character? True, his father's character was worse than her own for speaking of his deeds, but still...it wouldn't reflect positively on her, either.

Just my two cents...

Lol very true but if people had no communication problems then you'd have a lot of short movies.
