One thing I really loved about this movie
Was the way they characterised the imaginary characters. They were so real, and not just in the way that they were meant to be because we were supposed to think they were (i.e. Christopher). A lot of the time, they were just as real as the real characters, and not just one-dimensional simply because they were supposed to be imaginary or sub-characters to the main ones. When Richard tells Captain Excellent he has to finally go and never come back, he tells him, "But I'm not ready," which meant he needed Richard as much as Richard needed him. That was the moment that he (and Christopher) became real characters to me, not just ones that helped Richard and Abby become better versions of themselves at their cost, but ones that needed to be loved, just like them. It was heartbreaking when Captain Excellent and Christopher had to leave, because it meant they were no longer needed, even though they still needed Richard and Abby.
I only do it with superheroes.
