Um... Emma Stone was sort of amazing in this

I mean she's good in everything, but going by this she will most definitely win an Oscar one day.

My sentiments exactly! She's pretty much the reason I looked for this film

The story of this movie is not Oscar material. The material is too tepid, unrealistic and lifeless. I felt like the majority of the imaginary friend scenes were so forced. I cringed especially at the ending conversation between the two imaginary friends. It felt like it was a scene from a Shakespearean play where ghosts start ending the play with a monologue. I commend the actors for making a bleak movie into an average movie. Top notch acting? I wouldn't say that but Emma stone definitely showed that she can act as a bipolar character. This really shows the depth of an actor.

I don't think anyone was saying that Paper Man itself is Oscar material, just that Emma has the potential to perhaps one day be a nominee or winner. I agree, for the most part.

Totally agree. Watched this film simply because Emma was in it and I think she elevated this film. This film with lesser actors would have been terrible. I think the only reason I enjoyed this film was because of the performances. Specifically Emma's.

TV taught me how to feel. Now real life has no appeal.

She can only play a handle of roles because of her age and experience. Her first lead role movie was released last year, and she was nominated for an Emmy. Give her more time, and she would experiment with different roles. You can't expect hollywood to invest money on you when you can't even act yourself, imagine someone completely different from you. With easy a, she has shown she can act close to her personality. Now with the release of the help, and spider man we will see a lot more variety. By the way her previous roles aren't as similar as you think, from a protective strong woman in zombieland to a helpless lost depressed girl in paper man. Even her high school/ college movies she plays a pretend slut (easy a) to a nerdy sorority girl(house bunny), or a bassist in a band(rocker).

She doesn't play the same role, but she connects those roles by inserting part of her personality into them to give those roles life. Her witty intelligent humor can be seen in those roles, which is what you may refer. Which is what pretty much every good actor does to make the character more real and personal. Great actors who win or get nominated for oscars create a complete new personality adequate to the role, and still make it life like realistic. If this is what you expect from her, than your clearly overestimating her now. Maybe in a few years she can do it, as this is only her 4 year acting in movies and she only released 7 movies with which only one was a lead.

Emma Stone is amazing. Transcendent. Equally brilliant at comedy and drama. I watched this movie just for her and Jeff Daniels (long unappreciated), and it was a thorough disappointment. However, it was sort of worth it for Emma and Jeff. A shame the movie was at least half as smart as it thought it was. Hackneyed and indecisive (is it a comedy, a drama, a dramedy?), I would have turned it off 20 minutes in, but I couldn't stop watching whenever Emma Stone was on screen.

A shame she wasted her talent on this mess, but not every swing is going to be a home run.

I agree the movie was messy and it lacked a clear direction and foundation to built on it. I think they could of made the movie a bit more interesting if the lead role was emma stone, and see the story through her eyes. The writer was interesting, but it would of made him more intriguing if he remained mysterious and a supporting cast in the movie. The casting was fine, it was just the plot of the movie that lacked a purpose and identity.

She's my new favourite actress. As soon as she came on screen in "Superbad" she instantly caught my attention and I knew we would be seeing much more of her. She just has that "It" Factor - cool, charismatic, impressionable, likeable, a great actress. She comes across as very genuine and funny in interviews which is refreshing. She's got some exciting films coming up.

Agreed, OP. She is going to be a great talent (not that she isn't already)

The only reason I saw this movie was because of Emma Stone. Not only do I think she is one of the funniest people in Hollywood today, but she is just a great actress all around. I definitely think she could win an Oscar one day. She is getting tons of recognition now, and is very in demand. I can't wait to see where her career is going to take her. I will watch anything she is in.

She really was the whole show.

She's the only reason I watched this movie, and if she wasn't in it this movie would have been horrible, the story line is just..lacking. If I had to rate this movie, i;d give it a 6/10, only because of Emma. She made the movie. Not a great one but not a disappointment either.

That she is!
