south africa

I am south african and it seems our stories generate international attetion each and every day, with that I swell with pride but however the best people to tell our stories and history i think is us dont get me wrong Derek luke and Tim Robbins were great in their respective roles but it would have been much better to cast south african actors.Bonnie Mbuli"who is a great South African actress"was just wonderfull and with this i hope she gets international recondntion who knows she could be the next Charlize Theron.

In "Stander" they got it right, which shocked me.

famous people draw attention. Don't be naive. If you want south africans they will have to come to hollywood. Do American accents and THEN do a movie like this.

I actually don't think he's being naive. What both of you are saying is actually true. On the one hand, I just cringe when they cast an American to do a South African role (especially an accent, which they hardly ever get right) coz being South African, I would like to see more of our great actors being given the chance to do a South African movie, coz to me, seeing a South African in that role would be more meaningful.
Then looking at the other side of the coin, what you are saying is also totally true. It's sad to know though, that for any actor to be accepted, he/she has to go through hollywood and get the approval of Americans, and my question is, WHY? Why is it essential to act in hollywood before you can be recognised as an actor?

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous
