An odd reason not to like this movie *spoilers*

The way the filmmakers treated the villain was sick. And not in the good, gory kind of way.

I can handle Jacob Goodnight's death. But to see the girl spit on his corpse and the dog urinate on him was WAY too much. Michael beating him with a pipe didn't look like self-defense; he might as well have been beating Kira.

I couldn't stand to see Jacob degraded like that. There's a difference between the bloody, triumphant dispatch of a monster and the humiliation of a person who's already suffered enough. Jacob might as well be an obedient child, or a soldier carrying out orders. He is an abused, brainwashed person. In his own way, he tries to do right (or what he has been taught is right). He even has an epiphany, grows a budding mind of his own, faces his creator, and puts an end to the real evil.

I think Kane needs to have the same talk with the filmmakers that The Creature had with Victor Frankenstein. WTF? They created him...how can they let him be treated this way?

Not to be nitpicking, but the teens were hardly innocent (I'm not saying they deserved such a death though).

I understand your point of view, OP. In a better made movie, I might've felt somewhat sorry for the guy as he is a product from other people's mistakes.

@dogsoldier: Haha, yeah, I gotta admit, we're probably putting more thought into the story than the filmmakers did!

I guess I'm a bit of a bleeding heart. Every time I see Robert Deniro pelted with rotting cabbage, I have to fast-forward or I cry.

Funny, I turn to horror and other fantasy so that for 90 minutes or so I can permit myself to think in absolutes...only to find myself in yet another gray area...

Thank you for your response. :)

@RepoMan: I'm not saying his actions weren't horrific. I guess I just don't see things as black-and-white. I see him as a child who is forced to do horrible acts. So are child soldiers who are abducted into the LRA. (I know, the example is a bit extreme.) I can't see myself spitting on a the corpse of an abused kid, no matter what he was forced to do, and I couldn't stand watching it done to Kane here.

I have to agree with your choice of victims.

He's a grown man in terms of strength - and if he was able to kill his mum in the end, the fact that he killed all of those people FOR her beforehand still makes him culpable!

When you're the killer in a slasher film, it kinda comes with the territory... It's a movie, not a human rights convention!
