question about richie spoiler alert everyone

anyone else wonder why jacob didn't kill richie when he hooked him. goodnight killed all the others when he came in contact with them except the vegan, technically the dogs got her. but we see jacob drag richie into the elevator and when we see him next he is alive with both eyes and strapped to the wall.
why did he wait that long? any ideas or answers. i really liked richie and hated him getting killed.
