Surprisingly good

Most western movies based on anime have sucked. not this time. This was actually very good and entertaining and im surprised how much story and lore they managed to fit in the 2hours. good job.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I agree. I'm not into anime and didn't think it would be all that, esp. after seeing the trailer (I knew nothing about the character / series). But I was pleasantly surprised, just like I was when I watched Valerian and the city of a thousand planets.

The main character was actually very likeable, the teen romance thing wasn't off putting and it was very engaging emotionally for such an action oriented movie. Hell, even the female empowerment theme was done so subtly that it wasn't obnoxious, over the top and forced like with Captain Marvel / Brie Larson.

8.5/10, highly recommend.

Less than 30 minutes in (IMAX 3D, second weekend in theaters), I was mesmerized and feeling that this was becoming one of the finest movies Id ever seen.

That feeling didn't pass, and by the end it was one of my favorite movies ever, easy 10/10.

Cannot wait to watch it again and again.

Yeah this was a pleasant surprise, the soundtrack & visuals are fantastic.

It's been 20 years and now 1999 may be repeating itself. The Iron Giant and Fight Club were two movies that flopped in theaters but became certified legends, as well as enormous successes, on home video.

Now it's Alita's turn!

reply

Oh, there is absolutely no way that's happening with Alita. I mean, it's a pleasant enough movie, but it's much too bland to garner any kind of cult status. Nor does it have anywhere near the multi-layeredness or the intellectuality of Fight Club, that's just a poor comparison.

That said, I am hoping for a sequel. Although, seeing on IMDb that there is still nothing in development, I am not holding my breath.

Not sure why Cameron put all his eggs into this particular basket.

It was way better than Captain Marvel. Even if the last ten minutes get sloppy. I'd love a sequel but don't see it happening.

100%. I'm in complete agreement.
