I'm betting on female audience , Asian audience and hopefully Europe. I'm from the Netherlands and here it's doing very well.

reply

Cashing in on the trend feminsists are shouting for, forced female heroes, Disney princess syndromers with the snapchat flter crowd cheering that a girl kicked a mans ass.

The thing with that those SJW idiots cry, rant and call for these kind of things but never actually support it. Theres a reason theres a saying like "Get Woke, Go Broke"

The Asian audience wont touch this white washing dumb yankee cash in

reply

Well whaddya know.... an agenda-filled manbaby supposedly delivering breaking news with this post going on a pissy and pathetic anti-SJW rant. How original. You never see this type of crying here! Yup. Totally not a cliche of desperate neckbeard incel troll proportions. One of the many threatened anglos raging about icky strong females. Aww, sad little noodle dick incels. HA!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

reply

" manbaby" "desperate neckbeard incel" " icky strong females"

zzzzzzZZZzzzzzzzzz

Funny I was never afraid of Ripley, Sarah Conner, Clarice Starling, Furiosa, Catwoman, The Bride, multiple Game of Thrones characters, Leia Organa, Trinity, X-23, Buffy, Rey etc etc etc.

I didnt know pointing out a bomb because a studio committee vote meeting of old white men and a couple of feminist ideal women failed at tapping into a market that simply does not exist with a white washed dumbed down yankee film.

How about those studio committees give the money to visionary young directors who may come up with the next Matrix, Taxi Driver, Star Wars, Blade Runner instead of chucking Rob Rodriguez his childrens education money so they can control him into making a dull yankee white wash film. Or even give Rob a few million to do what the hell he wants.

Scorsese has to make his next film a TV movie with De Niro and Pacino! lolololollol

Most prolific Director of all time capable of making dynamic films well into his old age unlike any other director who usually lose it after a certain age. Like what Tarantino fears.

Scorsese cant get funding from studios loloolololl

reply

Looks like you got triggered by the nasty ol’ SJW, manbaby.

LOL

reply

Why exactly "Anglos"?

reply

Just as with the "Ghost in the Shell" movie, the Asian audience doesn't care about white washing. Movies are not considered in such a political light there.

reply

Ghost in a shell made $29 million in China. Hardly pumped for it either.

reply

The American audience didn't seem to have a problem spending their money on Frozen, Tangled and Bumblebee? Lol. Don't be mad at Disney princesses just because people didn't spend money on something you wanted. The American audience isn't familiar with Battle Angel, and Battle Angel is out of print. Nobody seems to have problems spending money on Hunger Games and Rey Star Wars coloring books. Raging on snap chat filters is insane, dude lol.

reply

It'll bomb in US like John Carter, Jupiter Ascending, Ghost in Shell, Valerian etc

But Overseas should do better than any of those SF/Fantasy bombs

reply

All those movies were pretty interesting.

reply

It will do well overseas.

reply

Like where, Nigeria?

Asia will see it as white washing and yankee dumbing down of their sacred material.

How well did Ghost in the Shell do in the Asian market?

It pulled a few curious suckers in from Japan, Korea, China, word of mouth got around and then silence.

Only made $29 mill in China.

Same with this, a few curious suckers, word of mouth that they didnt do it justice and its a watered down, white washed, dumbed down yankee film pushed out by a commitee because they listened to SJWs lambasting Hollywood for the lack of teenage females girls kicking grown assed men in the nuts. Beleieving those same SJWs would be lining up for multiple viewings like the fanboys who hollywood are shitiing on in the recent past.

Lets see how many women run out and see this film.

reply

I can assure you that Asian audiences don't give a damn about "whitewashing", only demented liberal Americans.

The rest of the world doesn't follow the worries of liberal millenials whilst they fret over their soy lattes about the next "big" worry.

reply

Fair enough retell an Asian story like with the Departed and do it with style, then theres Old Boy which didnt need a watered down retelling. But the only Yankee retelling of an Asian story that does well in Asia would be Godzilla. Mainly down to the much larger SFX budgets bringing them out to see what Hollywood can do with it. Or other monsters like in Ringu

Manga white wash retellings do not work, taking a good Asian film and giving it a yankee retelling it is one thing.

Manga on the other hand is something entirely different. Nothing can do it justice, theyve been talking about Akira for years and everybodies been facepalming every time they hear it.

Ghost in a shell prime example. First week boom from curiosity suckers over there then interest dies off.

Asia is not going to be the saviour of this movie that did not need a "retelling".

reply

Edge of Tomorrow did okay in China. Alita is fourth place as most anticipated foreign film in China based on a film site.

reply

All You Need Is Kill was a graphic novel with illustrations, and Edge did the original work justice. Hardly the same as taking Ghost in a Shell, an already perfect sublime masterpiece of an animated film and making it a dumb but pretty "shell" of the original.

Edge had never been on screen before + Edge of Tomorrow was hot shit, that word of mouth got around and it caught fire. There will be no word of mouth for this watered down nonsense, it looks pretty, ooh CGI!

reply

He hasn’t released in China yet from what I hear.

reply

Counting on the Chinese public to save this.

reply

Looks like China will save it.

reply

ooooh its all on CHINA to see if it breaks even!!!

Like I said earlier in this thread, first week will get the curious suckers because "oooh CGI and pretty colours!" then word of mouth gets round that its damp squib and big drop offs 2nd week.

reply

So yeh, flop.

earned $113 mill in China up to now. wow thats amazing!

Looks great on paper but in reality, the studio gets around $28.25 million of those Chinese sheckles.

ANd Japan has pretty much turned their backs on it.

reply

Ghost in the Shell bombed because it was shit not because it was white-washed.
From what I have heard Japanese test-audiences loved this one, even the original creator of the manga was happy.

reply

Both. Was shit, dumbed down yankee trash.

Alita is kinda trash to, maybe not as much but still watered down.

reply

I'm going to see it on Tuesday, so that should give it a little boost.

reply

Wow 1 whole ticket of boost?

I do hope it makes enough to green light a sequel.

reply

Get a life, KID!

reply

It has made 130 million worldwide so far and it has yet to open in Japan and China.

reply

Exactly this. The jury is still out.

From what I've read, it needs to make about $500 million to break even. With China and Japan still to come, it's possible.

And if it can manage just to break even theatrically, then that puts it in a fine spot, as it will be in the profit zone as the studio makes the film available for home video rentals and sales, as well as TV rights.

It has thus far outperformed expectations. Maybe it can continue to do so, especially considering audiences like it and word of mouth is good.

reply

With those drop offs its going to be very very close whether it breaks even, no sequel for this one.

No more curious suckers to go see it like week 1, big drop offs second week

reply

We just don't know yet on a sequel. A lot of films have gotten sequels because they performed well on home video and built a following.

Plus, you can't forget about the clout of James Cameron. It may just come down to whether or not he wants a sequel made.

reply

4 years later. Any sequel news from this bomb?
