Fox went all in with 200million. They are gambling big.

They are. No one except maybe FOX will be suprised if Alita fails to make a profit. But a good word of mouth (or China) can possibly help it succeed. The reactions from the early screenings were pretty positive after all.

In any case, whether it ends up being profitable or not, I think they couldn’t make this movie the way they wanted without such a huge budget. And with James Cameron on board, Fox must’ve had enough confidence in it. Hope it’s good.

That much? Wow!

I say "wow" because judging from the trailer, I doubt it will have the kind of universal appeal it takes to earn back that kind of budget. In fact, it seems like something that would only appeal to teens who are obsessed with gaming or anime.

Cameron and Rodriguez both promise that amid all the action and cinematography that there is a story to tell. If that is the case then the film may do quite well. I have never read the manga but the story looks very interesting. Judging by others that have read the manga it’s going to be an emotional tale.

I have a feeling that Cameron is more involved than he is letting be known since he and Rodriguez are friends. I guess Fox felt like Cameron is a good gamble and everyone may be surprised when the film hits the Cinema. I’m looking forward to it!

I do think that this film could end up as one of this year’s biggest surprises. I won’t predict its box office, but if the early buzz is any indication, then I have a feeling Alita is going to draw a bigger audience than expected. And as for Cameron, I bet his influence will be palpable.

I believe it will do better than what the critics are predicting. It would seem some of them are not expecting his influence to have much of an impact.

I saw the 3D trailer just after New Year's... and I got chills. The movie looks amazing on the big screen.
