...is depressing, and speaks for just how small this online community really is. I honestly don’t understand why more people didn’t come over from IMDb. Do they just not know about MovieChat? A board for a film like Alita: Battle Angel would have been insane back in the old days.
shareThe problem is that so many boards popped up when the IMDB forums shut down that the community got diluted between them. This isn't the only archived IMDB site out there.

MovieChat appears to be the biggest of the two IMDB archived sites I know of, by far.
There is also TheMoviedb.com, which has boards by movie/tv show/talent, but did not archive threads from the original IMDB. It seems to be fairly active.
Then there is imdb2.freeforums.net, which has mostly general topics but a fairly active community. I don't believe you can even browse that site until you register, otherwise it is closed off, or at least that's what I hear.
There are some users (like me) that appear to be posting on two or more of these sites on a fairly regular basis.

shareI was only a member at IMDB for a year and when the boards closed that was the saddest part for me. The message boards became my favorite past time on the internet. There was a film board that I visited daily and despite the film’s age the board was very active. I’ve been a member here for about six months and so far I have only encountered one poster from that board which is almost nonexistent now. It would seem that the majority of the posters on IMDB gave up the message boards altogether. When I surf the boards here I don’t recognize many names but I have made some new friends, I think, so I guess I will stay here and hopefully the forum will grow in time.

shareMoviechat has done a great job and I m very grateful to them for doing this, but it is sad how little is is used by folk.
I thought within a year or so it would have been almost as popular as the old IMDB forums, but you can feel like you are talking to yourself on here.
A movie like Glass would have had loads of discussions and views about it in the old days, but since it's release it's only had about 10-20 new threads with only a few getting more than a few comments.
I think Reddit and Facebook took a sizable share of movie discussion now.
But this Alita board itself isn't a good measure since it was pretty dead anyways, and with the review out, it's officially a bomb. Moviechat seems to be doing fairly well when it comes to overall general discussions. I still see a nice mix of old and contemporary films getting discussions on the front page. It's not hopping like the peak IMDB days, but I don't think anything can reach that since social media has kind of spread discussion everywhere.
