For me, it was when they replaced Clara with "Bill", an ugly butch lesbian with an afro and a man's name, obviously the worst companion since the show's revival in 2005.
I tried to come back during Jodie's first season, but I couldn't make it thru the season. Too crappy.
I watched the first ep with the female doctor. That was it.

I quit a few episodes into Series 9, a couple of years before Capaldi left. The show never clicked for me while Steven Moffat was show runner. A shame, he was credited as writer for most of the best stories when Russel Davies was show runner.
shareI liked Tom Baker as Dr. Who, and could even stand Peter Davison, but when the Dr. transformed into Colin Baker I just could not stand Colin Baker's face or voice or the way he portrayed Dr. Who. Never watched any more since that time. I could even go back to John Pertwee who was a good Dr. Who, just not Colin Baker.
shareI actually like Colin Baker's portrayal of the Doctor, I just don't really like the stories that he had to work with (on TV, I haven't listened to any of his Doctor Who audio dramas).

shareThe biggest issue was they tried to make him dark but strangling his companion was maybe too much for a lot of people. He does kind of maybe look a bit smarky but this doctor could be a bit arrogant and pompous at times.
However with the audios from big finish we got to see Colin play a much warmer doctor
Tom is the archetype Doctor. No one has been as good nor has any series been as good as his. I guess I have to amend my quit time as I had two. I quit after Tom Baker left and didn't come back until Tennant (backtracked for the decent Eccleston series). THEN I quit again shortly into the Capaldi series.
Modern TV is definitely laced with propaganda. Like Canadian TV having to include pro-Canada content. How many steps to the Russian model? We already have the lines, bare shelves, and anti-capitalism.
A few episodes into the Capaldi era, the overall writing lost its mojo.

shareNope. Admittedly it's been a while since I've seen series 10. I remember they made her a lesbian but I thought it was done in a way that was just a few throw away lines.
Some people think it was pointless but I think it added something to her character but it also didn't fall into the trap of making her sexuality be her main trait. It was part of her but not everything about her or what defined her.
For me she will always be a breath of fresh air because of her realism. I never was a massive clara fan and part of that was I feel they made her be too clever to the point she didn't always seem realistic. It didn't help that she was introduced as a plot device to begin with

She and the doctor meet a blue alien in one episode and Bill compared being black to being blue. LOL
They meet romans in one episode and Bill goes on and on about how she's lez while they're stuck in a cave.
I'm sure I'm forgetting some as it was a chore to make it through that season but I did enjoy Capaldi
The 2017 Christmas special was the very last new Doctor Who episode I have ever watched. No more needs to be said really.
