Next Doctor suggestions

As Whittaker enters her third season, the law of averages tells us her time at the TARDIS console is nearing its end. Let’s throw out some names of actors we’d like to see as the next Doctor. I’ll start with

Ben Wishaw
Jonny Lee Miller
Tilda Swinton
Hugh Laurie
Thandie Newton
Guy Pearce

Or an unknown. Unknowns are often good.

Some great suggestions. Might I add Richard Ayoade.

reply

Richard Ayoade as the Doctor would actually get me watching the show again! Great suggestion.

reply

You certainly may! He would be brilliant.

reply

I've mentioned it previously but with Richard ayoade I'm unsure if he'd be able to do the more serious stuff. I've only ever seen him do comedy. He'd certainly do the kind of zany side and I'd love to see it though

reply

I'd prefer a reboot of some kind, possibly a hard reboot.

Richard E. Grant
Richard Ayoade
Sean Pertwee
Mark Strong
Peter Dinklage
Matt Berry
Noel Fielding

with Charles Dance or Claes Bang as the Master

reply

Some great suggestions, I’d be happy to see any of those actors play the Doctor. I’m still of the opinion that Sean should play the 3rd Doctor in a multi-Doctor story, it would be a beautiful tribute to his dad.

reply

If the Ruth doctor had been between 2 and 3 he could have even did the regernation

reply

For some reason I saw Johnny and thought I'd seen johnny Vegas. That certainly would be different ha

reply

Someone one mentioned sandi toksvig which I can see working

reply

I would love it if an American played the doctor and he picked up American characteristics somehow and that was a running joke on the show.

reply

TOM CRUISE IS READY,WILLING AND ABLE TO RUIN THIS INSTITUTION FOR EVERYONE.

reply

If there was some satire it would be great.

reply

TARDIS IMPOSSIBLE

reply

Haha!

It would be great to have a stereotypical American hero type as the doctor. I would watch.

reply

Jack bauer as the doctor. All we'd here is dammit

reply

I used to like on Top Gear when they'd come to the US and make fun of it. A macho doctor who is impulsive and needs to be restrained would be hilarious.

You could have English companions kinds of helping him calm down, etc. A lot of good political humor potential.

reply

Appease two markets and bring in Jackie Chan, China has bought up to Season 15 and HBO Max the same so you know he's an institution in China and big in the USA (and rest of the world really), could have Lucy Liu as a companion or flip it and have Lui as the Doctor and Chan as the companion (as that seasons Graham type), either way both wouldn't need a Sonic and that'd please some.

Comedy could abound, hell bring in Owen Wilson as well and then it could be Shanghai T.A.R.D.I.S as a follow up to Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights.

reply

I would watch Chan as the doctor.

I watched the first two seasons of the new Doctor and it SUCKs with shitty stupid stories. It's a great concept that I still love. The Tom Baker days were the best. If he had modern special effects his period would be the best. He had good stories and he had charisma.

They need better stories and a dynamic actor.

reply

With better stories and writing then people would have been applauding Peter Capaldi, same goes for Jodie Whittaker, having seen her in other shows like Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Cranford, Marchlands and Broadchurch to name but 4, she has the acting chops.

Nothing wrong in my view with the actors they have chosen, perhaps it's time they got one and let them have creative input into their character and see what happens.

reply

I would have watched Capaldi but saw a few and the stories were stupid.

Jodie has a flat affect, meaning no facial expression, and I don't see what's good abut her. She looks dead behind the eyes.

If they were going to cast a female they should have used a comedian or someone with charisma.

If the Doctor doesn't have charisma, then it's being done wrong.

reply

Honestly if Catherine Tate hadn't have played Donna Noble she would have been the perfect choice as the first female Doctor, would have the comedic abilities and brought a real sense of fun to the show.

reply

Yes. I have thought the same thing.

They keep messing this show up.

reply

Yep even Joanna Lumley would have, granted she was the Doctor in the skit on the Red Nose Charity show back in 1999 however I don't think it would have mattered much. Though she is older and is of a similar look, build and height to Capaldi, so it may not have been the big change in look they tend to always go for. However all the same she would have bought in people to watch and perhaps been able to add creatively to it, just simple things like: No I think The Doctor would do [insert whatever] in that circumstance. That's is why I think the person playing should be given some small creative control, let them be able to throw-in how they think their Doctor would be and both Joanna and Catherine would have had the pull to do that.

reply

I agree.

They also need better science fiction plots.

The seasons I watched were just to stupid and I couldn't continue when Matt Smith arrived.

reply

They have stayed on Earth too much.

The law of businesses tells us that the series is nearing its cancellation. The next doctor is in pre-school right now 😄

reply

DOug Hutchicen.
I don't remember why

reply

I wish they'd get a decent showrunner, too.
