My issue with the latest series

Firstly I get what they where trying to do, taking it back to basics in a way to appeal to a newer audience. I generally also liked the doctor but felt the writing let it down.

The series itself had some good ideas/concepts but I felt they where never fully realised or watered down. In it takes you away the most interesting thing for me was the mirror world. Really thought it was a good idea with a lot they could do with it but they spend too much time building up.

Same with the finale. I thought the idea of the planet being the threat was great and had a classic vibe to it. But its never fully used and just seems like they realised they needed a reason to have the devices for later so made them need to wear them.

That's my main issue with the series. Some good ideas but they are all thrown about so we often get something okay but never its full potential. A popular youtuber Stubagful mentioned that the spiders in Sheffield one felt very bland to the point he even compared it to hell bent an episode he hates to point out that at least hell bent tried to do something different and he'd rather have loads of hell bents over unimaginative filler episodes. To me that echos how i feel about the episode in general. It tried to do stuff with the history things but through most of the series I just get the feeling it tried to be too safe possibly because it was worried about some fans and how they would take the first female doctor.

As for the characters I don't mind Ryan and his handicap adds another layer although it seemed at times to have been forgotten about. I also have found him wooden at times. Yaz seems to be the spare part. Not sure if its because he's older and so more.experienced actor wise and life wise but love Graham as he feels the most real and organic for me. I still feel there's one too many in the group and so one often feels like a spare part which as I mentioned often seems to be Yaz.

Another point for me is that while I saw a lot of people complaining about the lack of updates leading up to the series I was glad we where going in blind for once. I will often read spoilers but its nice when we get surprises. Imagine having a regeneration without knowing it? The problem for me is that we didn't get many spoilers but we didn't get any surprises. I felt like a classic monster would have been a good surprise in the middle of the series. Would also help reassure fans its still the same show
