When do you think the regeneration will happen?

In the interview Peter Capaldi die with Jo Wiley in which he announced his departure, he mentioned that it would be in the 2017 Christmas special. So, unless he's mistaken or fibbing, it'll be in the 2017 Christmas special.

The fatal blow falls during the pre-credit sequence of the first episode of Series 10. The rest of the season is a flashback leading up to it, and the finale returns to the present and has Bill gasping as she sees the new Doctor (but we don't see what she's seeing).

The Christmas special consists of a series of shorter flashbacks that enable us to see the previous season in a different light, and right at the end the new Doctor is revealed, and we all gasp and then laugh and say, "How clever!"

In-between episodes, just to piss people off.

The penultimate episode of S10 will 12 and Bill heading off to fight the Big Bad. The actual finale is a well-into-his-regeneration 13 and a brand new companion teaming up to defeat the Big Bad.

In December, Capaldi will appear in a non-"canon" one-off as 12 reading Christmas stories to children.
