barbershop clone?

does this sound like a barbershop clone and the queen latifah movie beautyshop to anyone else?

I thought that same thing when I read about the movie... until I saw it first hand.
"Barbershop" and "Beautyshop" did not really have a plot but both were still enjoyable, fun to watch and funny.
"The Salon" does not have a plot and is not enjoyable. I only laughed once when the token gay stylist was running away from bullies.
This is such a bad movie. It has no plot, it is not funny and it is too preachy about everything. There are way too many messages thrown at the audience:
Is it ok to beat your kids?
White women verses black women.
Gay bashing.
Black historical inventers.
Being a gold digger.
Black exploitation in the cinema....
And that’s just five.

Imagine that for two hours.

With movies like this, it is supposed to be fun to watch not an obvious lesson tied up in a two-hour movie. ( It's an after school special for grownups).

I like Vivica Fox but she needs to choose better work, and choose better work to produce too.

In addition, what the hell is Terrence Howard doing in this movie? That's all I'm saying about him.

I did not even see anyone from cast promote this movie on any of the TV shows. Did anyone else? The only reason I new it was coming out was because I saw a bad review in the Daily News.

I thought the same thing too. In fact, on the cover of the DVD there's a note that says something like "based on the play BEAUTY SHOP." Maybe after this movie bombed, the idea was redone with Queen Latifah's version?
