Kudos to the Queen for keeping her emotions to herself

Look, in this culture we live in where everyone has to know what everyone is feeling at every moment, count me in as a person who respected the way the Royal Family acted in 1997 when Diana died. The Queen wasn't blubbering on camera like she was on Oprah or some stupid reality show. Charles, Philip and even the boys kept a good face. Look, if the boys cried at their own mother's funeral it wouldn't matter. In fact, if Charles or the Queen did it it wouldn't have mattered either. But the public pretty much demanded they join the hysterical public in crying over her death. When the Queen acted stoic over Diana's death the public was all over it, and the media.

I actually respected that she didn't cry on cue just because others wanted her to. Maybe the Queen cried behind closed doors. I am sure Charles did. But I wouldn't want them to cry just because I felt they should.

They are royalty. You don't want to see the Royal family unable to keep it together. I guess that's just me. I see nothing wrong in crying, I just see a lot wrong in society telling a figurehead exactly how she should be grieving.

I agree and it's not even because of any Royal Family crap. The people making a fuss in the street were the same *beep* who wanted to know everything about Diana's life, her whereabouts, her friends, lovers etc and they're the reason she was hunted by paparazzi. Then she died and they felt cheated out of their feeling of being in her inner circle. For the very same reason, they wanted the royal family to act out their little drama publicly because that made them feel in the know.

Whatever the situation was with Diana, there were two things: people who actually knew her and dealt with their grief in their own way; people who liked to pretend they knew her and had to do a big production about how they felt about it.
Nobody made a fuss about her brother wanting a private funeral. Why?

The Queen does cry to herself in the film. Just before the appearance of the stag so near to her as thought out of sympathy to Her Majesty. Touching scene.

I agree.

I find it interesting that people condemned the Queen and others for their stoic emotions at that time but reacted the opposite way toward Jacqueline Kennedy. There was much admiration for her at that terrible time. I don't have an opinion either way. I believe people should grieve however they deem appropriate for them under the circumstances.

I doubt that she has ever cried over anything ... what bothers me most is what they did to Diana ... Back when Wallis Simpson was a thorn in their sides , the Queen's father who was King .. refused to give her HRH .. Oh her uncle had a fit over that .. and every time he would see Winston Churchill he would ask him to talk to them about giving his wife HRH .. The reason why they didn't want to give her HRH is because she was already divorced twice and if she had divorced her uncle .. she would still be HRH .. they could not take it away after giving it to someone .. well fast forward 60 plus years and they are dealing with Diana .. So who do you think the first person that the Monarch took HRH away from was .. You guessed it .. Diana .

Um, Actually Sarah Ferguson was the first person to take the HRH away, so you might want to get the facts straight. Also, you are obviously ignorant to the actual and legitimate reason that Wallis Simpson was not given the style.

Trying to make others look bad , doesn't make you look smarter .. just the opposite .. Don't waste your time and reply .. because I won't waste mine any further on a jerk .. I must say that you are the first person to act like a jerk on these boards .. everyone else has always been respectful .. something your sorry parents ... never taught you .. lol .. I love the ignore user .. I guess it should be ignore jerk .. lol .

Yeah, best you not say anymore and ultimately validate that you are ignorant and very butt hurt that I spoke the truth.

The only time the queen cried in public is when she had to relinquish her yacht. What a tragic loss.

There was a scene where she had her back to the camera and was weeping.
