What might seem trivial to some was actually a political issue

To those of us who can actually remember Princess Diana's death and the immense outpouring of grief that it wrought, this film helps remind us what was at the heart of the matter. This wasn't just the death of a famous person, but it was also a brief crisis that rocked the Royal family. This film perfectly portrays that crisis and gives an outsider a beginner's sense of the delicate power relationship between the Queen and the Prime Minister. All I can say is, bravo.

Exactly! That's what you come to see in the end is that the interplay between the queen and the prime minister, and how the public perceives each of them is, in many ways, a much bigger matter than the response to Diana's death itself.
