Seems to me like the Queen was entirely in the right

The public treated Diana like she belonged to them, and it killer her. Then they continued to act like she belonged to them when dead. There's even a clip in the movie of a woman at a public gathering weeping about "why couldn't we leave her alone?" whilst not leaving her alone.

Issues like the flag not at half mast really illustrate how the public seems to think the royal family exist to play out dramas for their amusement. If you want to be rid of the monarchy, fine, but if you want to keep it, don't insist that the common man has the right to override the traditions and rituals that constitute that monarchy. Most of all, don't pretend you own these people.

I agree the Queen was right to want a private affair but her intentions weren't quite right. It should have been private because her children had a right to grieve without paparazzi and millions of strangers watching them. The Queen seemed more concerned with Diana's title though. She wanted it to be private because she didn't consider her to be a royal family member. And that's ridiculous because she was the mother to the heir to the throne.

I do remember when this happened I was young (a year older than Harry) and watching TV I thought it was so crazy how many strangers were obsessed with this person they didn't know. I thought all those flowers seemed so wasteful and pointless. Who were they for? Not the family who wanted privacy. Not the family that was hounded by the press and criticized by the public in their time of grief. It was really quite selfish of the public to behave that way I think.
