Rhett = Dumbass? **Spoilers**

Am I the only one that thinks Rhett is an idiot? What's with burning the chair? He did get that Amber woman to like him for a few hours, but maybe it's better that it fell apart because maybe they shouldn't allow people like him to reproduce.
Rhett's idiocy is not endearing like the space-case antics of Jim on "Taxi" or Forrest Gump, who thruogh no fault of his own has an IQ of 75. Rhett is just annoying.

Wow I'm so amazed at the negative remarks of this movie..
Rhett is not an 'idiot'. Infact, I could relate to his character the most. I'm sure you could learn a lot from him if you'd actually of paid attention. Maybe you've never experienced it, but certain times in life there are things that hold bad energy, which is what the chair was holding, and letting go and moving on from them or coming to terms with something can change the whole situation.

Did you notice the second they were in the hospital and the chair had been burnt the contrast in the way the characters acted towards each other? I'm just watching the movie and I could feel it. Maybe you haven't had an experience like this in your life which is why you can't relate.

Watching this movie made me experience every moment of emotion that each character had gone through, and it's rare that that happens with me and a movie. It left me almost speechless at the end and most of all reflective.

Apologies if this wasn't a good enough explanation, I can speak better than I can write with things I'm passionate about..

Regardless, you are entitled to what you have to say, and it's obvious you didn't understand it. Maybe you should try watching iron man or batman, hollywood films are pretty easy to get.

I agree with you that Rhett isn't an idiot character. He's not a Forrest Gump saint either, he acts irrationally, but he's not someone you can just write off. The scene where he says "I love that woman," referring to a girl he just met, would be a big comedic setpiece in a Will Ferrell comedy. But part of what makes this movie so humane is that in this movie it's not just something to laugh at.

I think this is a good movie, but yes: Rhett is an idiot. I was very angry at him for burning the chair. How is that a good thing, when his brother has strived so hard to get this chair and get it in good condition to bring all the way to his dad? Rhett has no money, he's just mooching off Josh who is obviously not super flush himself (based on the motel deal) but is paying his way. Very aggravating, and if you think Rhett is not a little feebleminded, and actually believe in that "bad energy" BS, your brain is also suspect, frankly.

He's an idiot, and very annoying, but that is part of what makes it a good movie IMO.
