What span of time does this movie cover?

I saw this movie on TV last year, and I can't remember what span of time it covers. Anyone know? If so, thanks.

So they started filming in 2002? Somehow I thought they started even earlier. The rift between the American and Canadian teams (the defection) occured in 1996. Somehow I thought the filmmakers started filming as early as 2000 ...

They started filming before the first tournament -- as I recall, they show a lot of footage before that first tournament. I want to know how far in advance of the first tournament they started filming....

As far as I know, much of the footage that appears in the movie before the 2002 World Championships was actually shot after it. There may have been some shooting prior to 2002, but the majority of the filming took place between May 2002 (World Championships in Gothenberg) and September 2004 (Paralympic Games in Athens).

When they arrived in Gothenberg to film, the filmmakers didn't really have an outline or a good idea of the story they were going to tell. They knew they wanted to make a documentary about wheelchair rugby, but the exact focus - on Joe, Mark, and the USA-Canada rivalry - came about as they began filming.

I hear you, yet at the same time, I remember the Canadian team talking with great fervor about needing to beat the Americans in 2002. They showed a lot of that foootage, from several different days/weeks/ months. It couldn't have been post-game.

I may be rememebering that wrong, but that's how I recall it -- that they filmed quite a bit of prologue that occured before both games -- and that it wasn't fake.

There was a lot more than just one game in Gothenburg; teams were there for almost two weeks. The final game to decide the World Champion was on the last day. There was plenty of time for them to film the Canadian team talking about beating the USA during the first part of the tournament.

As well, Canada actually played the USA twice during that tournament. Both teams were in the same pool, and played during the round robin. Canada won that game and came first in the pool, with the USA second. Both teams won their semi-finals and met again in the finals. Some of the footage with Canada talking about playing the USA was shot during the round-robin, not the final.
