Joe Soares is an a-hole

The way Joe treats his kid I hope the kid hates him forever and never does anything good for him. I know these types of fathers. I hope Joe dies of the works imagineable death and rots in hell.

So what?

The movie doesn't get into it too much, but there is some indication that Joe had an abusive father himself. I think it was perfectly clear that Joe loved his son. He was just super competitive. As with all jocks, it is a difficult adjustment to get used to a child who does not share your love for athletics. I think all things considered, there was some evidence that he was gong to make that adjustment. There were quite a few scenes of Joe interacting with other kids, either at his family reunion or at the public pool in a deleted scene. He seems like a very likeable guy overall. He is just a compettitive athlete, and that lifestyle carries some baggage with it.

Everyone who thinks he is an a-hole should watch the interview in the extra's. He really came off as a likable guy.
The thing I really liked was that he applied for coach of the USA but got turned down. He didn't really seem that upset about it and went to coach Great Britain.

At the European soccer championships we (Holland) got our a$$es kicked by Russia coached by a Dutch person. Why call him a traitor. He is just doing is job. Comparing him to a traitor in a time of war is ludicrous.

I just spoke with Joe today and he seems like a very nice guy. He's coaching Team Poland now. I asked him about the way he looks in the film, and his opinion was that the film made him look like a real a-hole in the first half, and an angel in the second half. He said he's neither. I asked him about the anniversary scene, and he said that the filmmakers asked him and his wife to re-create that because they had celebrated it the week before. He also said he was drunk when he toasted to Canada. Like I said, he was very nice to me, but none of us really know the guy.

Man-made disasters are natural, because man is disastrous by nature.

It was definitely suppose to show his maturation after the heart attack. in the beginning they made him look like an abusive *beep* I thought it was pretty obvious use of editing...
