Kong?!? (Spoilers)

What was up with Kong (the guy who was stalking Nak)? I mean, as a character, he just seemed ridiculously redundant. The story wouldn't have been any different if he had been taken out altogether, I think.

He was just too passive to be any threat, and too useless to be of any help... or do ANYTHING for that matter...

And what was with his final scene just popping by the schoolyard? For a minute there, I thought he would find the body, or at least get killed, but we were left hanging with no resolution... Am I missing something here?

This is because the plot is thin, full of holes and not carefully constructed. Not to mention the disgraceful acting too.

how did you get to see this film? i am keen to see it for myself.

reply

I just watched it myself...I got it at Blockbuster, and I only saw it by chance. But I do agree, what was with that guy? I mean, he had not point in the plot other than just being there to annoy Nak.

reply

ashychan666, you said you found it in blockbuster, are you in the uk or stateside? i am still looking for this movie.

reply

Robbystrauss666, I'm in the US and I also rented the movie from Blockbuster. If you can't find it at your local videostore, or they can't order it for rental, then maybe you'd have better luck joining something like Netflix or Blockbuster Online, or any other online Rental service with a large movie selection.

Even though the storey had a lot of plot holes. I liked it. And yes I agree, Kong was mostly just annoying. But I think the reason he was there, was because Ghost Nak was trying to test/tempt Nak away from Mak. As in, go to Kong, he loves you, you could love him. Which would leave Mak available for Ghost Nak.

thanks for your help kitsunagariblu, i am actually across the pond from you in the uk but i am sure i will track the film down. i have seen web pages from the movie and it looks visually stunning.

Word! Kong was a total douche bag. I guess he was the screenwriter's weak attempt at a "red herring". You could see how they were totally setting him up for a grisly demise and then just plain old forgot about him.
I'll still take this as a passable Asian horror film - you can't tell me this wasn't better than Ringu 2 or Ju-On 2. Talk about stupid movies.

i hope you will let others form their own opinion.

How do you knock Ring 2 and Juon 2?

Ring 2 was decent, actually had creep factor, and a believable spirit. This crap had a ghost with uber-white aura, with a freaking black hole in her head. Whats so scary about that.

All 3 movies had the same thing in common, a vengeful spirit wanting to live again, by haunting the main characters to get their way.

Only one succeeded though.

How is this passable. I watched this with my wife, and we ended up doing our own voiceovers. The plot was really rediculous as the plot was weakly held together.

At least in Ringu 2, it carried on Sadako's rage with some forestory and hunts. Ju-on 2 was just as bad witht he special effects, and rather predictable, but at least it made you think a little bit on how everything came together. Plus you have to love Kayako in the end, completely ruthless I tell you.

I was also wondering why Kong wasn't killed at some point in the movie. After he followed Nak to Mae's grave and looked inside the hole, I thought that Mae's ghost was going to pop out and drag him inside to drown. Instead the scene just ended there and you never saw his character again. They must have never gotten around to filming his death or if they did it was cut. Still, using that scene as his last appearance in the film was kind of awkward.

I also wondered what purpose Kong's character served in the film. One thing I was confused by is that Kong is supposedly Nak's ex-boyfriend, but all of the flashbacks make it appear that Nak and Mak have been lovers since childhood and together for a very long time. The way the film portrayed Nak and Mak made Kong's relationship to the two even more confusing.

I thought that Kong was cuter than Mak though, so that justified his existence in the film to me. LOL

I've seen the original Mae Nak, but I haven't seen this one. It's on my blockbuster list though...

Were there two different remains in the nursery where they were digging for Nak's remains? I remember one of Nak's friend said that those were the remains of a child. Maybe Kong stole those remains and that's why Nak's spirit is still haunting....I'm probably wrong but I'm just throwing ideas.
