I'm an Idiot

I seriously thought this was a mockumentary until I came over here to see who the actors were. When I think of outsider music, I think of someone like Gary Wilson. I'm not sure what to think abut this film.

Darling, I am trouble of the most spectacular kind!

You saw the whole film and thought it was made up? Come on now.

well to be fair they had footage of everything it seems, working up to his Atlantic record deal. Whom ever made this did a great job.

I am hoping to watch this movie in the next week. I found it in the bipolar section of the library. As a bipolar person who has experienced manic episodes, all I can tell you without watching it is the following. Manic people (who are not medicated), believe that they can do almost anything. They have an over inflated sense of their abilities. For example, when I feel that way I think that I can write a book. I like writing and could probably do it, but it takes that manic feeling to push me to try. I suspect that is what is going on here. He really thinks he is great at music/singing and unless medicated (which makes you feel very dull and pushed down), he will not see his music the way others do. Keep in mind, As another artistic personality, this condition is very hard to deal with, I personally can't do anything artistic (it seems) while medicated.
I haven't listened to his music and am not a music expert, I just have knowledge of his mental condition and plan to watch the movie to learn more about his bipolar experiences. Anyone interested in learning about the different forms this condition takes (it varies from mild to severe) will find this easy to read link interesting.

I know an obsessive record collector who thought Spinal Tap was a real documentary, until halfway through when he realized that they must be fake because he'd never seen any of their records or even heard of them.

reply

No, you're not. Having seen it yesterday I am more than ever convinced that all of it is fake ... and most of the posts on this board prove it. As a mockumentary it is brillant, as a real documentary it would be one of the most awful, boring and tiring experiences I have had watching a movie. What finally convinced me were the parallels drawn to Brian Wilson. After that I knew that the filmmakers were trying to pull my leg. Well done !
