Missiles

Whats a good way to dodge missiles?

reply

Depends. If they launch a long/medium range missile more than 10,000 ft away, then i suggest trying to get it out of locking range. if it's a close-range missile (sidewinder) then you may want to try some ACM like a split-s or an immelmann. there're a lot of other maneuvers you can use, but usually, jinking and rolling work pretty effectively. Are you having a specific problem?

Wait until the inbound missile is within 1000 ft then roll plus or minus 90 degrees and break hard (pull back on your stick). Use full afterburners, and cease the maneuver after moving 90 degrees in heading (north to west, south to east etc.). This is the easiest move to do and is the most effective assuming there is only one missle fired at you.

If more than one missle has been fired, or if you are limited as to how high you can go, use the ground to dodge missles.

Make a hard dive straight for the ground or a canyon wall, break away at the last minute, and the missile will impact the ground.

If you are in close quarters with head on or 6 O'clock inbound, roll 180 to 360 degrees, press lightly on the yaw / rudder control during the roll. If you press too hard you will smack into a wall. Otherwise it ends up with the missile just barely missing you.
