Can anyone explain....?

I just watched this movie for the first time recently, and I thought it was amazing. I noticed that a few times in the movie, Keith would adjust the mirrors in his truck and stare at himself for a few seconds, and I was wondering whether this had any significance or if anyone else noticed this? I don't think anyone else has mentioned this in these threads before.

I did notice it once. It was after Keith nearly rolled off the cliff in his truck. Natalie is scolding him for it and after she says "I know what close is" (in reference to the edge of the cliff), he smirks and adjusts the side mirror. It made me think of the warning label on all side mirrors, "objects in mirror are closer than they appear". I think it could have meant one (or more) of these three things:

1. The deceit of the mirror is symbolic of Keith's manipulation and false image that he's projecting to Natalie.
2. "Closer than they appear" could also be a reference to Natalie's feelings towards Keith or vice versa. They were both hesitant to act on their true feelings. It seems like a lot of people think Keith just straight up hated Natalie and wanted to ruin her life. I got the impression that he really did love her and only rejected a 'serious' relationship with her because he didn't want her to become too attached to him when he was so close to dying. He thought making Natalie hate him would make it easier for her to deal with his death.
3. When Natalie said "I know what close is", she was basically saying "I know how close you were to dying". But she really has no idea how close he actually is to dying.

The side mirror could symbolize any of these things, and any of these reasons could be why Keith smirked.
