More films like this one (and Teenage Dirtbag)?

This is my favorite movie, and I've been scouring the web for about two years, trying to find something comparable. Unfortunately, Todd Kessler hasn't put out any films since, and there's virtually no information on anyone in the production team. Like many others, I think the closest thing is definitely Teenage Dirtbag, which has a very similar premise and overall feel, though this one certainly features better action, direction and screenwriting. Teenage Dirtbag is a little amateur and messy, but in a very endearing way that makes you like it all the more.

Usually, people who ask this question get recommendations like A Walk to Remember or The Fault in Our Stars, but neither of these have the same appeal. They're both rather sappy and glossy and obviously made for Hollywood studios, without any real substance. Keith is so unique in its approach to the high school drama-romance genre. The chemistry between Keith and Natalie is electric throughout, and the emotional scenes hit you like nothing you've ever seen. During Natalie and Keith's nighttime confrontation, there's so much emotional tension, it sends tingles up your spine. Then, the airport scene made me cry like a baby, it was so heartfelt and genuine. (ONLY time I've ever cried during a movie) Keith's intense emotional appeal is what I'd call "cathartic"---a quality that I also see in Teenage Dirtbag, during the scene against the lockers, as well as the confrontation in the movie theatre restroom. There's so much pent-up emotional, romantic and sexual tension, especially in Keith, that the release brings intense catharsis.

Can anyone name a film that has this sort of quality? Sorry I rambled so much, but I'm really tired of getting told that I should watch A Walk to Remember. I've seen it, and it's not the same.
