The soundtrack!

The movie has its flaws, but the soundtrack was just amazing! Really saved the movie in my opinion. It just shows what an important aspect the choice of music is (something I think is often overlooked)

I thought the movie was pretty good, the soundtrack was great. Marco Beltrami did a great job.

Why don't you turn that frizown upsidizzity?

reply

I do want the soundtrack.

I liked some of the songs on the soundtrack and loved others, but the ability to choose good prerecorded music does not a good director make. I think the music was very intrusive here, and it was used as a crutch when the writing and direction failed.

"I think the music was very intrusive"

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the same. I watched this at home and found myself muting it when the music was too abrasive and annoying. Not to mention distracting. At the end it was just too heavy handed manipulative. You know it's bad when you find yourself thinking about the music when you should be engrossed in the film.

I did think the direction, and especially the cinematography, was gorgeous.

The soundtrack really is jarring, isn't it? Too often films, particularly recent ones in my experience, use music as a crutch instead of to help guide the viewer through the scene. When the soundtrack distracts from the tone of the film, it's not serving its purpose.

An unrealistic musical related scene was the party with the big crowd of all-young people dancing to 'credible' rock music. That hasn't happened since the '90s, unless I'd just been going to the wrong places with the same, over-produced, auto-tuned crap!

A couple of good songs in the movie.

The soundtrack is on iTunes. I bought it and LOVE it.
