I always envisioned Patrick Stewart as The Giver

Though I haven't seen this film, I can't really imagine Jeff Bridges portraying someone who represents the wisdom of the ages. He's always struck me as being better cast as the "good 'ol boy" type.

Mr. Stewart, on the other hand, has brought so much wisdom and gravitas to characters like Picard and Xavier.
