Not scary at all

This movie was supposed to be scary? It was just nasty.. The jump scares were all predictable and I never even watch scary movies. The monsters were also very weak, most teenage boys could have killed them easily. Absolute joke.

reply

Uh oh! We have a tough guy here!

reply

Well I sh!t myself watching it!!!!

reply

Lol, I know right? What an idiot.

reply

Just because someone has an opinion you call them an idiot? I actually agree. I didn't think it was scary either. One of the jump-scares got me. But the whole fighting with the mutants (or whatever they were) got very tiresome and boring. I just wanted it to end. 5/10 for me.

reply

Of course you have no ratings. What movies ARE scary to you?

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

The Ring was pretty scary when I watched it back in 7th grade (2002). But other than that, I can't really think of any scary movies.. Maybe I just don't scare easily.

Still though, I was disappointed with how weak & stupid these monsters were. I kept hoping that they were all babies and we'd see an adult one that was actually scary, but it never happened. My girlfriend also didn't think this movie was scary, just really gross.

reply

Yeah, I don't get "scared" either but as far as horror goes, I think it was pretty effectively "thrilling". I don't think the monsters were supposed to be portrayed as "badass" so to speak. I think they were supposed to be more creepy, gross and even relatively cowardly when it comes to other capable, full size adversaries. Their normal prey were relatively weak, smaller animals. Their saving grace WAS their numbers when faced with a real threat.

It was being underground with no way out that freaked me out. The crawlers were beside the point.

Oh what a falling off was there.

Seriously though, you're really douchey....

Thank you :) Alpha males are usually pretty douchey. Girls love it.

reply

Alphas would watch this movie to have fun with their friends. Only a beta try-hard would go online and bitch about it not being scary enough

reply

Meanwhile, you created a new account just to make this comment? Safe to say you don't even qualify as a beta. Go waste someone else's time!

reply

People who refer to themselves as "alpha males" usually aren't alpha males lol. I bet this guy has never touched a girl.

reply

sounds like i hit a nerve. never bothered with an account, but i couldnt resist bullying a poser like you :)

reply

The monsters were very weak? Yea ok...
What a troll you seem to be.

reply

The girls were able to fight them off pretty easily. The only reason they died was due to sheer numbers which is pretty lame. I'd rather have a couple really strong scary monsters than a bunch of weaklings. But hey, to each their own.

reply

Well their sheer numbers, and the fact they are completely trapped, and the whole psychology of the film made me cringe like a baby. Fine if that is not what scares you, want a strong monster, watch Uzumaki or The Host. But for me, this kinda film was absolutely terrifying. BTW the ring is a *beep* film, watch the original instead.

reply

I haven't been scared by a film since I was a child, what's your point?

reply

Point is, this movie doesn't live up to the reviews I read on here. I wanted to make it known to hopefully save anyone else from being disappointed.

To each their own. I think it's the best horror film of the past decade. Perfect amount of tension, suspense and buildup.

I have a crazy idea here, Mr. "Alpha-Male". I know it's crazy, but it just might work. Why don't you let people decide whether or not they want to watch the movie and form their own opinions from there? Or, just keep being a douche who thinks he has the final say in all things cinematic. Because that would be your choice.

When movie hell is full, re-makes shall walk the earth.

reply

I agree - the monsters just seemed very easy to kill, and up against a group of weak women they just didn't seem scary at all.

reply

I'm glad at least one person agrees with me! Maybe we can go caving together sometime ;)

reply

I think that you were looking for a different type of scare. I don't think that the crawlers were supposed to be the "scary" part of the film. This is by all means personal taste, but I think that what people are talking about when they discuss how scary the film is, it's more the atmosphere, the girls turning on each other, and Sarah losing her grip on reality.

There are plenty of posts on here about how much of it was just in Sarah's head. If you are just looking for a scary monster movie than this isn't the one. Horror is so subjective. I like this film because of the different ways it could be interpreted. TO each their own. I hope you find a movie that does scare you some day. :)

I completely disagree that the monsters weren't "intended" to be scary. If that were the case, the writer/director wouldn't have bothered including them to begin with. What's the point of making a monster flick if your intention is not to scare the audience with the monsters?

That being said...I do believe they meant to terrify just as equally with the other elements: claustrophobia, madness, darkness... and that they did. In fact the most terrifying moment of the film is likely the cave-in and the excruciating build-up to it, tracing back to the very first girl who crawls all the way through with no musical score.

The tightness of that tunnel...it was as if you could feel the walls closing in around you.

As for the OP: it's very unfortunate you didn't find this film frightening. A significant number of people who have seen this film agree that it is one of the scariest films of the last decade, if not THE scariest.

It also has a significant amount of emotional and psychological depth. I hope you caught the unrated version the original ending in tact.

As far as the monsters being "weak" I think that was intended to provide more realism. Most movies of this type feature these invincible monsters that are impossible to overcome. The monsters being quite kill-able also gives our protagonist the chance to get a taste for killing/violence, which ultimately helps push over the edge. Her going over the edge is one of the main themes of the film. Especially with regard to the original/extended ending, which is the film's most emotional, cathartic, and powerful moment.

I don't think that we disagree at all. You just explained yourself better than I did. :) I think that the monsters were supposed to scare, just not be the scare. If that makes sense.

reply

Exactly :-) cheers
