A question about children (spoilers)

Do you think she was lieing about the children not being hers? Obviously the eldest one wasn't as she said the girl was 12 and she only moved to London 9 years ago. But the others? Oh, how long did she say she was married for agian?

Anyway didn't he say something about her being pregnant when they where married? Or was that him just projecting a false story?

What are your thoughts?

reply

I'm sure she was lying. She said lying gets easier the more you do it. Remember when he played the voice mail in the hotel room when she was in the bathroom? The girls called her mummy. Unless her husband's ex-wife died they would not call her mother.

I think the eldest might be their love child. She could have fluttered around other parts before settling in London. I don't remember how long ago they divorced but it was several years ago when they were quite young.

reply

she went to london 9 years ago, so unless she and jeffrey the cardiologist got married as soon as she go there (give or take 3 months) then the 8 year old child would be our main character's child. what about that scene when she was hospitalized for 6 months, then at the background it showed a cardiologist's office/clinic, given that was jeffrey and thats how they met then the child is definitely from her first husband

reply

but her first husband was the main character

I was wondering too whether he was telling the truth about her being pregnant when she left or if he was just inventing a story
cause that would be pretty stupid to lie about the older girl not being hers since he obviously knew she was pregnant. it's obviously something he would have remembered.

Didn't she miscarry? I mean, she got hit by a bus on her bike... that's usually not great news for a fetus...

reply

I don't think that the bike accident occurred while she was pregnant. If I'm wrong about this, then I missed something. When she describes the bike accident (getting hit by a car) she didn't say she was pregnant at the time.

reply

She mentioned being alone after the bike accident but did not specify when it happened so my guess would be she was not pregnant when she left.

reply

So then she couldn't have been pregnant with Aaron's child at all then, because she was in London by the time she had the accident.

No, the kids aren't hers, she said they were her husbands from a previous relationship. And in a flashback scene, when the women and Jeff first meet he is showing her those pictures of the kids.
My guess is she was pregnant when she left(and the man did know because he said "and you were pregnant") and then she had that bike accident and she lost the baby.

i think babybrown989's got it. the whole movie was about their previous life, where they were different people. even the title reflects this as there were no other women in the movie, yet several times it implied that they were different and by telling their story to eachother, it was almost as though they were actually completely different people. i also thought that the kids were hers because i doubt the kids would be calling her "mummy." although this film is certainly open to interpretation, i doubt that they intended only one message to come across to an audience, it was too vague. personally, i really enjoyed that it could be interpreted so many different ways.

The way I took is, the eldest child was his. Yes, she moved to London 9 years ago, but it doesn't say she immediately went to London. It the glimpse we have of the childen, the eldest has the same hair as him.

I think she when she said they are "another woman's" she meant they were hers. Just not he "her" that was there in the hotel room, or the "her" that he knew long ago. She meant the "her" that lives in London with the cardiologist husband.

Regarding the children, no one mentions that she said she was 2 years married with the doc. That happened when she took off her glove to show the wedding ring to the man, not very long into the film when they were discussing bridesmaids.
If that was the case (i don't have any reason to believe that her every word was a lie),
then none of the children was hers with the exception maybe of the older, where its not clear what happened with her pregnancy.
