Release Date? (Approx?)

I'd like to know when this film is set for release in North America and I wonder how hard it will be to find it on the big screen? My girlfriend was an extra in the film and had a few scenes with Christopher Lee so she'll probably be in the film - provided they dont cut those scenes - We were in Edinburgh for the last 2 years but are now in Canada and want to see the film when it comes out. Anybody have an approximate release date? Its a great story and a fairly big production so it should have a relatively large showing in Canada.

Well according to Imdb it`s already completed and will be released very soon I guess. It`s under Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the list of mr. Lee`s films. So I guess Greyfriars Bobby will be released prior to Charlie.

How nice your girlfriend had a role in this film. Especially since she had a few scenes with Christopher Lee! Do you happen to know what role Lee is playing?

reply

Aha, added today: Lord Provost Chambers is Lee`s role. I`m very curious! :)

Aye my wee brothers an extra in this film too. He plays one of Sean Pertweems(sp?) sons. just thought i would give it a mention!

Thanks for your question as I also was an extra in this film in Stirling a bit cold but great fun and good nights out ,partiuarly chuffed to be in a graveyard with the legend MR.Lee .I was chatting to irish actor /commedian who plays Tam for a while before it tippled who he was. He enjoyed that part in his costume not being reconised was fun . Big Cosmo stayed back to thank extras and for pictures .Kirsty was as lovely as she was in The Legend of the Loch on IMAX in Balloch /Scotland I was in that production her first film I guess had a good chat about the parts dropped scenes cut . Looking forward to release of Bobby .

I was at University of Stirling the semester they were filming there. One of my friends was an extra. But now I'm back in the States and kind of afraid it won't get a wide release here...

Ok - well I take it there's no word on a release date yet - But if anyone does find out please post it. It looks like it may just go straight to video. Especially here in N. America. I think its a good story and would be a good christmas release for the kids, y'know?
I'm surprised that it's taken this long to be released but I guess I dont have much experience with these things so maybe its quite common?

The release date in the UK is 10th February 2006 in Scotland and then going wider on 17th february. The film is being released by FilmMates and Universal in the US (www.filmmates.net). There is a Greyfriars Bobby website www.bobbythedog.co.uk. which includes the trailer. It is still under construction but the trailer is worth a peak. And in case you are thinking I am a member of the public who is very well informed, you'd be right. But I am also the producer and want everyone to have a good time with this film - in spite of a few begrudging comments on this chat board!

I'll go and see this out of curiosity, but that would be all, because there are certain films that film-makers, producers and the like should be banned from "remaking". The original Greyfriars Bobby is one of them. Its the definitive telling of the story, performances, sets and all, and you aren't going to better it. That's a fact.

Film studios need to drop this odious practice of "remaking" films. You get paid enough, try using your imagination!!

EDIT: Oh my gosh! I've just watched the trailer......Christopher69, if you are the producer, I think you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself!! Cheesy American voiceover?!?!? No Mr Traill? I think you should be obligated to advertise the original film before yours.

I won't be seeing it after all.

The idea of dismissing this film wihout seeing it is truly insane. The "original" was a charming - but very Disneyfied "take" on Scottishness. The story of Bobby is no more American than Winnie the Pooh - so please see it and comment after rather than prejudge and make an idiot out of yourself. As for which "brand" of dog it is, or whether every actor in it "has to be" Scottish is surely subserviant to making the best decisions as to how to get the story onto celluloid in the most dramatic and entertaining way. Note: this is a feature film, not a documentary!! Finally the daft parochial debate on whether it should be filmed in Stirling or Edinburgh is another madness. Anyone who knows both cities can see that they can double for each other for many period locations at a pinch. Please see the film, then share your wisdom, and give the producers and director the chance to prove themselves.

I'll see the film just pre-release next week and have no connection with it other than curiosity and interest to see how they handle it. I'll file an IMdB review comment after which I promise to be honest - for good or bad: watch this space!

I agree, no one is going to top the original GB. The cast alone cannot be replaced. However, no matter what, I will be going to see the new one. GB fans should give it a chance. I hope it is outstanding. Most famous dog in the world should be accorded as such.

I really hope this movie gets released in theaters in the US...As for using a Westie over a Skye, I think this little pup's character still captures the true terrier spirit.... (I'm a hardcore Westie person too, my other Westie friends and I will enjoy this film I'm sure.) As for remaking the film, it's a great story, and the original was made in 61. Why not re-introduce the story to a new generation?

Toodles.
