the story!!

Has anyone not noticed the fact that it is a different story from the orginal. Bobby's owner worked at a farm in the original now in this one he is a policeman???? How do they get away with changing the story??

I think the first movie wasn't all that true to the actual story; I've read this one is closer, but still leaves out some important people (and no doubt vilifying some others!). Wikipedia has a more detailed post and some links. They also switched breeds; Bobby was a Skye Terrier, this dog was a Westie.

They get away with changing the story because the first film was incorrect.John Gray was a family man and a police constable. He got bobby as a watchdog. The proof is in his police medals which he was buried with.

Currently I'm watching Greyfriars and thought the plotline seemed familiar. See below....

Challenge of Lassie

Based on the real-life account of Greyfriars Bobby, who remained by his master's grave for fourteen years until his own death. In this takeoff, Lassie as a pup is dumped and then adopted by sheepherder John Grey, who trains her as a working dog. Murdered in the streets of Edinburgh by muggers, Grey is buried in the city churchyard and Lassie won't leave. City law forbids dogs in cemeteries; also, due to legal convolutions of the times, Lassie technically never had a legal owner and must be put to death if none appears. The foolish laws are challenged by church fathers and others sympathetic to the dog's plight. Lovely scenery of the Scottish hill country.

The Greyfriars Bobby story is a hoax anyways to get people to visit Edinburgh (where I live).

Had my photo taken next to the Greyfriars Bobby statue (before I found out the truth) http://imgur.com/0Ez6MBk

I'm gonna refuse you an offer you can't make
