Already Screwing It Up

Allison wasn't a hurricane, it was a tropical storm. It was just really bad because it decided to hang out right over Houston for 3 days and dump buckets of rain.

reply

That's exactly what I was thinking. When the said hurricane I got confused. I was like, "Uhhh if they're talking about Allison, it wasn't hurricane."

reply

All these "fact-based" dramas are just as they say they are... "fact-BASED", not "factual". Also, I guess the reason that they said it was a hurricane is because "hurricane" sounds much more menacing than "tropical storm."

Where did you hear anyone say hurricane? I did not hear it anywhere.

Did anyone else notice that it was a tropical storm in June but everyone was wearing heavy jackets. They were even breathing steam. Talk about that crazy Southeast Texas weather.

reply

Yeah leah, we noticed the steam when we were watching it. Another of the many 'Non-Texas' factors of the movie. At least R. Schroeder was able to save all the patients.

I live in Dallas, and the weather can change in an instant. Even in June, the weather can get cold because the clouds block the sun and the rain cools the air. Tropical storms are especially that way. The low pressure will push the cold air down and the hot air up. Never underestimate the power of Texas weather, amigo.

Weren't there reports of snow in the Panhandle a couple of years ago in May or June?

Yeah, the movie lost me right from the beginning with that...I've lived in Houston all my life, and I remember Allison well...it was humid, not cold, and certainly not cold enough to see your breath.

Its kinda strange, but in late June of 1989 Tropical Storm Allison hit Freeport, TX and caused major flooding in the Houston area. How odd that 12 years later another Tropical Storm Allison would hit almost in the same area? I remember the first storm very well because my family had just moved to the Houston area from Alabama just before the storm hit.

reply

No one in the movie said Allison was a hurricane. I've watched the movie 4 times and they always called it a tropical storm.
