Let the War Commence

Point Pleasant was one of the most original series on television...especially on FOX. Marti Noxon had learned a lot in her time on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She really knew how to blend teen angst with the supernatural. This show was a lot darker than Buffy the Vampire Slayer, however. Allthough I was disappointed to see it get cancelled after only 8 episodes, I was glad the remaining 5 were released on the DVD set. For anyone who was a fan of this show, you should get the DVD set to see how the storyline was wrapped up. My one question about this episode, though is whether or not this was supposed to be a SERIES finale or just a SEASON finale.

According to what I've read about the series it was to be the season finale but got cancelled after showing only 8 of the 13 episodes they filmed. Too bad. I'm watching them all on Chiller tv now. It seems like a good show.

After watching the first 6 EPs so far I'm starting to believe that by the time it gets to the last couple I'll be cheering for the apocalypse. This is definitely one of those shows that, like "Dallas" or "Dynasty", the longer it goes, the more you learn to despise virtually all of the characters.
Barely half way through the series and I find myself saying "kill 'em all".
Great show. LOL

See, I don't really think it was supposed to be. If it were really only the season finale, the characters wouldn't have changed so drastically. It is stated many times in the first few episodes that Point Pleasant is just the training ground for Christina to increase her powers. The name of the show is Point Pleasant. After "Let the War Commence" they wouldn't have started Season 2 with Christina in a new city. That's why I am thinking that they knew how they wanted to finish the series and they just moved the episodes up when they knew it was going to be cancelled.

Just finished watching the last episode and I have to agree with you. I don't see how they could have had another season or more. Maybe that was the best they could do in a couple of episodes.

I could see them having more episodes with a slower progression which would have led up to what became the 9th episode. We probably would have learned more about Christina's parents, Jesse's father (Who is actually God), how Isabelle knew two years before Christina arrived in Point Pleasant what was going to happen, etc.

The writers knew the show was canceled when they were still working on the last few episodes but they were able to complete the order because the show had overseas deals and such, so they hastily threw together an ending but left it open just in case there was a chance to continue the story. Marti said in an interview she had always wanted Christina to be evil in season two but the show was originally not intended to end that way with its thirteenth episode, if that makes sense.

I love the show, and even enjoy the last couple of episodes, but not as much as I wish I could...they definitely have a rushed, thrown-together feeling but it's not like there was much anything could be done about that.
