for me, this show fell a bit flat

While watching this series on dvd I was thinking that the acting was really bad. But after watching it in its entirety, I now think that it was the script and presentation of the show that made it less than what it could have been. The general plot (the anti-christ, trying to find a way to not be,)is pretty interesting, but I think the Barbie/soap-opera setting was the wrong format for such a potentially epic tale. On the other hand, it was only season one, who knows where this story could have gone,

I agree. While I did like the setting (small town) it shouldn't have been so soapy. They should have left out that part of the show and brought in the 'good' and 'evil' characters pulling and pushing Chris sooner. The also could have included the dark history of the town.

Oh yes, exploring the town's dark past would've been fun! (sigh) What a shame, they had sooo much to work with,

I think the concept of a horror soap opera works very well, but with Point Pleasant it's largest mistake was simply underscoring the horror element as much as it did, but I think a lot of that was FOX's influence due to the show being a lead-out of The O.C.
