I want to adapt it to a graphic novel

I would LOVE to be able to adapt this to a graphic novel but I have no idea the logistics of going about that. Obviously I would have to buy the rights somehow right? I mean I've seen comics produced all the time that aren't really "cannon" to the series so is it easy to do? If anyone knows anything about the subject let me know! Thanks :)
