So How Did Christine Fall in the Water?

She said she fell off a boat on a school trip but then when they're snooping around they find out she had never attended that school. Did she still fall off a boat or was it something completely different? I assume if the show continued they would've explained more.

That was a huge gaping hole in the story they never explained.
