scripted???

i don't think this is real....they are always talking like they are trying to "remember" something they had read...or reading cue cards...also i've watched it 4 or 5 times and every time the first girl he says no to is pretty attractive and he's kinda beating himself for it....the second reject is just average looking and maybe a little "thick" and he makes some off the cuff comment about how he dodged a bullet with that one...and the girl he does pick is hotter than hot....perfect body, great face...etc come on every single time this is going to happen...i don't think so.

I can't believe I was actually watching this; however, I noticed the same thing. The characters are obvioulsy reading scripted (or pre-self-written) comments (there is absolutely no sense of realism in the speech of these 'real-life' people). And it seems quite obvious that jokes are being pitched to the person dating the mothers. And what's with that running away in the end and having a fake kiss against a blue screen background. I don't know if the show is entirely scripted--you'd think, if that were the case, they would do a better job and not make it so tacky.

reply

hahahaha. yeah I noticed it's pretty cheesy. my guess is that they write stuff as they go along.

"we're gonna win this!" ~that's so annoying. we hear it every episode by just about every mom and daughter.
"looks like someone got hit by the butter truck." ~[in reference to a fat chick that wasn't picked] funniest thing someone said on this show. (in my opinion)

reply

being someone admittedly having a few extra pounds ... but recently lost some of them with more to go ... i find it very offensive that they would say those things and put them on the air (if its not 'fake') ... i'm not ignorant to the stereo types of our world or that thin is the obvious thing to reach for ... but why make these girls who probably already have self esteem issue feel even worse about themselves ... not to mention the millions of other "fat girls" who might be watching ... we already know we aren't the cream of the crop ... does it continuously need to be said on national television???

HAHA I was on the show, well it hasn't aired yet, but I'm on the new season it should be coming out in july or aug 05

reply

you can so tell it's scripted, espescially when they say something like the mom is waiting let's not make her wait anymore!! and then he gives the thumbs up...wow, that was s-m-o-o-t-h. not.

reply

actually in the first season, this one guy picked the so-called "less atractive" girl. (She was the one who drew the picture that the mother thought looked just like him) and she was short and bit overweight. The expression on his face was more like shock, than surprise when she got out the limo. Even the rejected girls thought he made a huge mistake.

Please tell me somebody remembers this episode.

StarvingEyes were you referring to Angel Princess? I was thinking the same thing. What was that about she was a wreck.

I kinda thought that was funny when he (was that ricky?) was all "i'll text you" to angel princess. Oh, and that was REALLY funny when shawn/sean saw that one girl get out of the car and he was like "her mom said she looked like naomi campbell. all i saw was raven-symone" kinda rude, but funny. But YES, I was thinking the same thing about the scripts! MTV should not make regular people act. It was just dreadful watching Ricky trying to sound realistic.

haha this is hilarious I am Ricky from the show and for one I am not a jerk, you dont even kno the half of it, i did it for fun not for a date, people must be retarded if u think i really picked uru to date her daughter haha this is too funny, and the acting looks horrible because they edit parts they dont even match with what ur saying, and they put in things you say when you think the camera's are off, and it is way harder to act like "yourself" then to play a role, but u guys do ur thing and make fun of everyone, all i've gotten is good responces on the streets from people coming up to me, i achieved what i wanted and that was to have people talknig about the show, but anyways thanks for the laugh of reading this

omg i remember that episode where he said he would text he, i was pissed off at that especially was she replied ok like a damn moron.

reply

Of course it's scripted...they make such corny lame comments. I personally like Room Raiders more...less scripted than this crap.

Really? It doesn't seem scripted. Date My Mom just seems so forced.

yeah, and it seems like the guys are told what to ask the moms. Because on one episode the girl told her mom not to tell him what kind of celeb she looked liked. and she said okaay. but then the guy asked the mom, and she told him without no hesitation. But he didn't ask the other 2 girls what celeb they looked like. idk, kind of werid to me.

And also, everytime the girls tell their moms what NOT to tell, of course, the moms go ahead and tell all that stuff....

reply

Exactly. It's too predictable.

''But I still watch it anyway. lol. I don't know why.''

Yeah same here, it's a bit addictive.

I live in Los Angeles, some of my friends have been on the mtv dating shows, except room raiders because that's an east coast show, not everything is scripted but a lot of it is, and they edit things around to make it more interesting and make the people on it seem like jerks. MTV producers actually go around LA/Orange County asking people if they would be interested in being on one of these shows

That part is so cheesy. The writers on this show are so stupid, and you can tell that it's not real. The mother and daughter relationship looks fake too! They're all trying to be hot and stuff, and the little things they say are stupid too. And when the girls who weren't picked at the end always diss the guy and say that he was stupid and ugly, it doesn't make sense. Actually, there was this one episode where one girl was all, "So did you like him?" She replied, "Yeah, but there are many other birds in the sky." And they both turned the camera and said, "And we're going hunting!!!" Then they pretended to hold guns and they made shotgun noises! It was so funnily stupid. I hate this show, but it's so addictive!

Totally scripted:

Boy: Sorry, _________, I don't want to date your daughter.
Mom: (5-4-3-2-1) Well, ___________, (2-1) you made the wrong decision. (3-2-1) This is my daughter, ___________. *points at car*
Daughter and Mom: *after choice somewhere else* We don't need him anyway!
Mom: C'mon, _____________, let's go home.

Same routine, over and over.

There was one scene where this girl wanted her mom to ask the guy a question, he answered exactly what they didn't want him to say. And on the same episode this happened again, and the answer was also the worst thing.

The questions:

Mom: Do you where boxers..., or go comando?
Guy: Comando.

Mom: What religion are you, were Christian?
Guy: Agonostic, Athiest.

Sounds very scripted to me.

reply

Yeah, I know which episode you're talking about. It came on yesterday I think. Anyway, it did sound very scripted. He had the answer to Commando so quickly it wans't even funny. If a normal guy were going out with a mother they wouldn't release that information so quickly. Also, when the girls come out of the limo, they all come out in the order of which they were rejected and then the last girl always wins. If this were real, then the girls would have to scramble to get out of the car because of course they wouldn't be sitting in the same spot each time. So the girls would have to know that they were going to lose and the girl at the end always wins. You can tell that it's scripted just because of that!

Also, do you notice that when the moms come home from the dates, the daughters are sitting somewhere "busily" doing something. Its usually writing (WTF WOULD THEY BE WRITING?) putting on makeup (yeah cuz i sit on the couch all day long and apply lipgloss and eyeshadow), one was listening to a cd player, a bunch are reading...like come on. If your mom came home unexpectdedly I'm sure youd be doing something other than sitting in the same exact spot you were when she left. SO staged.

reply

I noticed that too - the mom comes home from the date and the girl will be sitting there reading or friggin knitting or something. Yeah, that's realistic. Then the same act "how'd it go mom?" "it went great! but.. i did end up telling him about the vomit story." "mo-ooom!" "it's ok, sweety, we've got this one in the bag!" My 6 year old sister could write the scripts for this show.

reply

Then the daughter acts like she's surprised when her mom's back. Hello, the camera crew is in the room, of course she'll know. It's definately planned out.

reply

Want something else?

Alright, whenever the mom and daughter are in the backyard and chatting and stuff, the guy comes and knocks on the door. How do the mom and daughter hear this? They're in the back yard, he's KNOCKING on the door, how are they going to hear that so easily?!

Also, whenever the mom comes back, she tells the daughter how she told the guy a horribly humiliating story, which probably didn't even happen, and then the duaghter's like, "Oooh, no you didn't!!!" And then the next second they both are all, "Oh yeah, we'll definitely win this. We got it."

Oh yeah... this show is scripted. Ain't no reality to it.

"I don't like so much freedom down there. It makes me tingly in my giblets."
