Crosswalk music

The music that the crossing signal plays...
is that really a song that's played at japanese crosswalks, or just something that they inserted into the movie?

reply

They have those kind of crosswalks in Japan. It's a little surprising when you first use one, but I think they have those in America as well.

I'm not sure where they filmed the movie but it is a mountain town with snow. I went to Japan last year and at the base train station to climb Mt.Fuji, the town crosswalks played that music! I was so excited that I just stood at the light with my camcorder recording the whole thing!

The movie was filmed in Yamagata-ken. The piece of music was an adaptation of "Coming Through the Rye".

reply

Really? I thought it was some kind of Japanese song. Maybe I was mistaken though.

It is "Comin' Through The Rye", and is played at zebra crossings throughout Japan. For instance, it plays at the crossings in the town of Bungo Takada (my wife's home town), in Oita-Ken (Kyushu). I have yet to discover why this particular tune, from such a long way away, was chosen and made the standard for this purpose.

... in Japan, there's no music at the crosswalks. Sure would be fun if there were, though! The other people who replied here are lucky!

this scene had me thinking coz I was sure I had listened to this tune before. Ha! And I finally found where!
