Zeta is the best of all the Gundam series. The original series compilation movies were exellent, I hope Tomino can do as good a job on these.

So this is definitely a condensed version of Zeta? I just finished the first three Gundam movies, and Char's Counterattack isn't making much sense... I mean, it is, but it isn't.... do I need to watch Zeta first?

reply

Yes, it would certainly help to watch Zeta first. Possibly Double Zeta as well since they both come before Char's Counterattack.

Chronologically speaking, "The 08th MS Team", "Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket", and "Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory" all take place before Char's Counterattack but they're like side stories so they won't likely fill any blanks for you.

As a couple of people already remarked, the original Mobile Suit Gundam series had 3 compilation movies. Gundam 0083 had a compilation movie titled "The Last Blitz of Zeon." So I believe www.mahq.net when they say under the Zeta Gundam section:

" Prepared for the series' 20th anniversary, Zeta Gundam: A New Translation condenses the 50 episodes of the TV series into a trilogy of films. Combining new and old animation, the movies change the order of some events from the TV series. The first film, Heirs to the Stars, premiered in Japan in May 2005, to be followed by Lovers in October and the final film in February 2006. Unlike the TV series, the movie trilogy has not yet been licensed for U.S. release."

Let's cross our fingers that it doesn't take too long before it's brought over here.

It looks like the first movie gets released on DVD in Japan sometime in october... It will be great to be able to watch the three MSG compilation movies followed by the three ZG compilation movie in a marathon! If there were a ZZG trilogy I could watch that, as well as CCA in the marathon!! (If I managed to stay awake)
